just shaved my head for the first time and I got a Headblade for the occasion

i'm 26 and have been going bald for some time now. I don't know what started the thinning of my hair but I stopped caring about it shortly after. I was already getting buzz cuts when it really set in and purchased a vacuum cutter to buzz it down myself. I've been buzzing for close to two years now and always thought about shaving my head. I heard about the headblade from usualsuspect.net few months ago; checked out the site and didn't think too much about it(yet it stuck in my head). Earlier this week I said to myself it's time to start doing this; read up on the headblade, read reviews, and saw how much easier it would make my experience; than purchased the blade and some headslick shaving cream.

So an hour ago I buzzed my head down, poured some hot water on my scalp, applied the headslick and put the blade on my head. I began the shave......it was amazing. I did not cut myself once nore did I feel myself knicking anything. This was way too easy. I've got to say the product is amazing, it makes holding onto the blade just perfect. Headblade just got a permanent customer.

Now if only they could make a double-edge blade attachment.......

I started with a HeadBlade and had pretty good luck with it.  I switched to a Fusion about a month ago mainly to get a closer shave than I could get with the HeadBlade.  HeadSlick is my preferred shaving cream for head and beard.

Since you just shaved down for the first time, how do you like the new look?

HeadBlade is great but don't rush it because you can cut yourself with it badly when you become overconfident  (like myself)

sadly my hair was so thin that it looks pretty close to me buzzing it down. There was a clear difference in how it felt though. I enjoyed shaving it much more than buzzing it down; my buzzer is loud and its messy even though it has a vacuum. I realize though now I must shave more often than I would buzz because you can't really shave a full head of hair, but it is a lot more enjoyable in my perspective so that won't be a problem. I can already feel the hair growing back as I write this and it's only been one night. I'll have to read up more on blades but I know I want to continue using headblade because of its grip. Holding a regular razor to your head doesn't compare.

What are the sharpest/closest razors that are compatible with the headblade?.

I used the 3 blade headblade and purchased a 4 pack of them for back up. They are pretty good but how do they compare on the closeness?

If your hair is like mine, you'll have to shave everyday to keep a smooth head.  I shave when I get up and by late afternoon or early evening, I've got a fuzzy Velcro head. 

Don't let the idea of shaving every day put you off the full sly.  Once you get into a routine, the daily shave can be enjoyable and the results feel great. 

Gillette Atra blades work with an adapter and give a good shave even though they are twin blades.  They seem to me to shave closer than the HeadBlade triples.

Did the same thing...funny thing when I started, the blade in my HB Sport was installed backwards and I didn't know any different until it came time to replace the blade.

Very true. I was using the HeadBlade one time in a rush, and cut myself real good. Be careful.

Congrats to making the step to shave your head. The enjoyment of doing it will increase with time, although I can see you already did and did it without cutting yourself.
I have been shaving my head for 15 months and normally do it every other day, lately I have tried to do it daily and I do fine.
I have been using the Headblade as well from day one and started with the double blades, later switched to the triples and I got a closer shave with the triples, plus they last longer.
I bought some Twin Pivot Personna blades with go with the yellow adapter and I have been getting very good results, I can say the Personnas are good blades and they are very cheap compared to others.
I have also purchased some Wilkinson Sword but not used them yet.
People say the Atra work well,don't know, you can also purchase the Contour. They are the same blades but marketed under that name in Europe.

Thanks for the suggestions. Taking what you guys are saying into consideration. The price/value of something you use almost daily is quite important. Hopefully my local Shoprite sells blades. Also any chance some of you have seen compatible blades at Costco? I remember buying mach fusion at a nice discount back in the day; before I used doubled edges on my face.

There's a lot more surface area to shave, so blades don't last as long as they would if you were just shaving your beard.  Others on the Forum have advice on how to prolong the life of the razor blades.  My trick is to rinse the blade well and dry it off with a towel rather than let it air dry.  Seems to help.

I think for me the deal is that when I shave too fast with the Headblade, I tend to put pressure on the blade which is a BAD idea. 

I use the Headblade blades, they work fine for me.

I rinse the blades with alcohol and they definetely last longer. I also put the blades on a blade sharpener before and after use, it's called the Blademaster. I bought it in Europe, don't think they market it in the US, but you can buy it on the German and UK Ebay sites. There are several vendors that carry that product. It is a German patent.
