New world guy saying hi from the old world
« on: September 02, 2011, 06:23:00 PM »
Hi everyone  :@`

I've been a lurker since about 1956 (slight exaggeration) so I thought I'd sign up so I could say hi to you all  :)

My name is Andy (or rather, that's what everyone calls me because my real name is so goofy), and I'm an American guy living/surviving in England. I've been here a VERY long time (over 30 years), and I still cant figure the place out, yet somehow I'm still surviving...

Anyway, I'm a bald-by-choice kind of guy. If I let my hair grow, it would be very thick and very dark brown, and not thinning at all, but around 5 years ago I kind of liked the idea of having my hair cropped. Not shaved, but cropped. So I stood outside a barbers shop for around an hour trying to get the balls together to actually have my head buzzed, but when the hour was up I lost the nerve I never really had in the first place, and went home feeling sorry for myself.

Then later that night, after a few drinks, I went to bed and fell asleep, but then at about 3am, I woke up, went into my bathroom, grabbed my beard clippers, pointed them at my head, and hey presto, a cropped head. And even though I do say so myself, it looked pretty good...

And I guess it was about a week after that, while shaving my face, my razor found its way to my head, and I've looked like a white bowling ball ever since. My hair grows seriously fast, and I hate the stubbly feeling, so I shave my head at least once a day, but sometimes twice. Never had any problems with cuts or bumps...

I do let my hair grow back once a year, just for the fun of shaving it all off again  ;D Its really odd, because my dad was as shiny as a doorknob by the time he was 18, and I spent most of my childhood being terrified of losing my own hair. Now, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyway, thats me  O:O

p.s. even after lurking since 1956, I still haven't really understood what the term 'sly' means. Any pointers welcome  :-[
