Hair growth pattern
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:43:31 PM »
Hey

So I've been doing the 30 day challenge (day 11, almost at the half mark!!!) and have started to get used to shaving the back of my head. I'm pretty good at shaving the top and the sides,  but still am having trouble shaving the back. I use a mirror to see the back (and plan to start using my hands to feel for missed spots on day 15). I shave with the grain so for the back that means shaving down, but at the upper regions of the back of my head the hair grain seems to be growing in the opposite direction. This leads me to get some resistance when shaving this direction. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well. Is this the crown of my head? I thought that was at the top of the head and not at the back

The crown is where a lot of people develop a bald spot.  It's normal for the hair there to grow in different directions.

My hair grows in different directions in back just below the crown.  I have to shave several different ways to feel smooth.  And strangely, the randomness of the growth is more pronounced on the left side than the right.

Congratulations on being near the half-way mark.  You'r probably noticing that your scalp is becoming accustomed to being shaved and that you are getting better at it.  I tried using a mirror for the back, but found it to be awkward, so I do it completely by feel (left hand keeps place and feels for stubble).  Give it a try if you feel comfortable.

The 30 day rule really works.  It gives you time to adjust.  I'm 12 weeks in and my scalp has toughened up (no bumps or razor burn), so the sly look is even better.

Hey
Thanks Razor X and npsbg for the response. I am getting better with shaving everyday. The number of missed spots are definitely decreasing. Just got my order of Headlube matte today and it feels great on my scalp. I'll be sure to keep you posted. 30 days here I come!
