Head Shape Concerns
« on: August 01, 2011, 06:15:44 PM »
I've seen several posts regarding head shape, but since I've been shaving the dome (4 years now) I've been bugged about the huge bump on the back of my head.  From the front, I think the sly look really suits me.  From the back, well that's a different story.  I have grown accustomed to it, but someone said something the other day, and it got me to thinking again. Take a look at my photo.  Do any of you have this same thing?  Give me honest opinions.  Would this bother you?  I shave for a lot of reasons:  1) It's cooler in the summer.  2) Don't have to go to the barber.  3) Don't have to deal with hair.  4) No more itching/flaking scalp.  5) Previously, I had three cysts removed, and I haven't had a single cyst since shaving.  6) I'm gradually losing my hair anyway (am between a Norwood 3 & 4 now).  But, on the other hand...  What would you guys do?

Keep shaving. It does suit you. You look great sly.  I also have a similar looking posterior.  I don't let it bug me as 1) I don't care what others think of me 2) I can't change it and I know I look worse with hair and 3) if they are laughing at me, I can't see it. LOL

Hope that helps.

It does help.  Thanks man.  I just saw another post on the site with a picture of Michael Rosenbaum.  I look like his twin from the back.

I think it looks fine. That's the beauty of being sly, every head is different. Adds to the mystique O:O

I am not an anatomy expert, but that 'big bump' your atlanto axial (atlas) and atlanto-occipital joint where where your skull is connected to the top of your spine. Everyone has it, some more prominent than others.  I do think a prominent occipital/axial joint makes a shaved head particularily attractive - sort of like the structure of your body showing through your skin.

I never thought of it that way...that a prominent occipital/axial joint makes the head particularly attractive...but I can see what you're getting at "clipped."  Thanks for the feedback guys.

If I met you in person, I wouldn't even notice the bump, unless you pointed it out to me. I was always self-conscious about imperfections on my head until I realized I was the only one that cared about it. No one else noticed.

In my opinion, you have nothing to worry about.  :)
