Head pimples!
« on: July 20, 2011, 01:10:03 PM »
Hey guys could use some advice here. I just shaved my head sly on Sunday and now have actual pimples pretty bad just on the sides of my head in front of my ears and on the back of my head. They are forming whiteheads as well. I shaved my head sly before and did not experience this but I am wondering what went wrong this time and how I can get rid of them quickly? Also should I stop shaving until they clear up? The only thing different is I am using a different tanning lotion on my head than last time. The first time I used jergens and now I am using coppertone. The coppertone is supposed to be better though and actually says on the bottle that it will not clog pores.

Like I said any help in clearing this up would help and again would like to know if I should stop shaving for now?

Thanks in advance guys

#1--clean that dome with a mild anti-bacterial soap such as Cuticura--the blue bar--at least two if  not three times a day to keep the natural oils and other secretions from becoming a breeding ground for problematic bacteria and microscopic critters.
#2--apply 10% benzoyl peroxide anti-acne lotion to your head after cleaning with an astringent such as hydrogen peroxide 3% solution.
#3--make sure that you change those pillowcases at least once if not twice a week, and those hats--if you wear them--they get dirty too, clean them.
#4--consider an anti-acne scrub or a loopha pad to exfoliate the skin and keep the pores and follicles clear of accumulating secretions.

You've got nothing between your scalp and the dirt and grim of the world now--you've got to keep it clean.  Before any skin blemishes were covered by hair--they are now out in the open for everyone to see.

Saint's advice is sound. It helped me in the past. Just be careful with step two. Peroxide acts like bleach and can permanently stain dark color sheets/pills cases.

I'll give those a shot. Will the benzoyl peroxide lighten the skin on my head. That would suck considering I finally got it tan lol

Not sure but I didn't notice it on mine.

It won't have an effect on the scalp or shadow--but as |Doug| reminded me it will bleach out any colored fabrics, towels, pillowcases, sheets, shirts--the works!

Perspiration makes my skin break out so I'm always getting more pimples when it's really hot, so the time of year may also play a role in what you're experiencing.

good advice from the others in this thread. I would also suggest spot treatment with a salicylic acid (this is the active ingredient in most acne face washes/creams) based acne cream. Just apply it directly to the pimple before going to bed, wash off in the morning.

Get yourself some nuetrogena acne wash, it looks like a yellow bottle of dial hand soap.  That stuff is great, use it in the shower morning and night. Also apply some spot treatment lotion; I prefer 'acne free severe terminator 10' It comes in a smaller tube, been using that 3x a day as well.

I've got some bad neck acne and started to use this combo after 'proactive' just wasn't getting the job done. You'll notice it start to heal and dry up within 2 days.  Also if you're really aggressive, go and pick yourself up some Burt's Bees face wipes (prefer these over 'wet ones' or other similar cleaning wipes; easier on the skin and don't leave a soapy residue). They come in a little portable pack of 30 for about 5 bucks, you can probably find them at most drugstores next to makeup remover or other travel wipes.  They are great for cleaning any dirt/oils/grease on your head, face and neck to help keep you clean throughout the day.

Great advice SaintC and Razor X. I experience that problem occasionally too. I will give that a try.

It was really hot in the Twin CIties the last couple of days. The heat index registered 115 plus!!!

I had a similar problem after I started.  Check out my post on sensitive skin under the 30 day/newbie forum. Hope it helps.
