SLY to Semi-SLY: Pure Laziness
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:25:57 AM »
Not that it takes a lot of time to be pure SLY (daily or 3X/wk [my old regime]) sometimes it's more than I want to do to keep the head looking OK.  So, of late (past couple of months), I just buzz @#1 once a week.  And, what with my white hair, against a proper light background or in dim light or to someone with not the best vision--well, I look almost SLY (as the accompanying picture may or may not corroborate).  Anyone else go this route from time to time before a return to the razor?  Once I retire (not that far off), I'll need something to fill the days, so probably will use up some with a more steady devotion to SLY.

Not that lazy.  But you may recall, I had grown it back for two weeks after I had surgery.  Head hair is too dark to get away with looking sly.  I just look like a Norwood 5-6 guy!

I only shave 2-3 times a week. Don't mind the stubble. I find it easier and less messy to just shave than to use clippers though. I'm a shower shaver.

My Wahl clippers have a 1/2 guard (1/16 inch).  So I'm not totally sly, but pretty close. Shave the top every day.  Love the velvet feel. It's cool in the summer. Never looks like I had a hair cut. (always the same). No MPB at all.  Just like it very short. I fit in with the other IT guys at work that also have very short hair. Maybe it's a tech thing.

I shave every other day, so there's usually a bit of sandpaper feel to it.

The weekends, I really take the time to get it smooth like a mirror. Next, put on the 'shine'  lube and it IS a mirror :-)

Jeez, Ming, if you keep this up SBG is gonna have to raise some money to buy you a set of hippie love beads.

Semi - sly for me  is a horseshoe    - - -  when I get lazy  - -then I look at the back of my dome in a week or two and I usually shave it off

or someone says something like: "don't you shave anymore?"  or I see another sly bald guy  - -and the sly bald head looks GOOD and feels GREAT

I'm the same way -- if I miss more than a day or two the horse shoe appears.  I used to be very disciplined about shaving everyday, but now, after being sly for almost a decade, I'm getting to where I don't always care if my horse shoe is showing or not.  In the winter time, I intentionally let the stubble grow in -- I need something to keep my stocking cap from sliding right off the top of my head!

I do prefer when my head is completely smooth but it recquires mantainance and a daily or every other day shaving routine (I have a full head and my hair grows very fast).
I don't mind a little stubble, so a weekly #0 is ok for me.... like to see it grow a little, the sandpaper sensation and everything. Usually get the #0 low crops at barbers and finish home and next week shave again. Of course the first day (smooth shave) is the best but stubble is good too.

I used to let it go 2-3 days at a time...

Now I can't stand it.  I might let it go a day, but that's about it.

I've said this before in other threads, but I can go with out shaving my face...but not the dome!

I can't go a day without shaving because of the stubble. I just prefer to be super smooth! In fact if my scalp could take it, I'd shave twice a day!

Mainly I keep it pretty smooth... but sometimes it's nice to let it sprout a bit! If only for the feeling when it gets shaved again! :)

Rev. Cleanhead, I definitely agree with that sentiment. My beanie would slide off my head all the time in the winter, so I started shaving less often during the months I wear a winter cap and it solved my problem :)

I have my days when I'm either running late or just plain lazy and don't wanna.  I think the longest I've let it go since I went back to full sly was 1/2 an inch.  My MPB isn't getting any better and I just can't fool myself anymore that I feel good with the 3V3A pattern.  I prefer me sly.

I shave every other day in the shower.  On the days I don't shave... it's because my wife leaves earlier and I have to shorten my shower to make sure I have the time to get the kids to school.
