HT thoughts

Hello All,
I am glad to find this forum, im really confused about my situation, my hair loss is affecting dramatically ... the thing is i tried the buzz look but with no hairline (mine is receding badly) i look way older than i really am, and im getting sick of that. I was thinking to go for a mega FUT (strip) session and have a nice head of hair for a while but again looking into my family history, i notice that i might be losing more hair and ending up being Norwood 6 or 7, and in that case no HT can give me a good coverage and i won't be able to shave, so having a strip scar is a NO NO for me. FUE was another option, since even though it gives you white dot scars but they are not really noticeable with the buzz cut (guard 1 or 2), but recently i have been reading about HST which gives no scars at all, with HST they claim that they only take a small part of the folliculate from the donor area (with a needle as small as .5mm) and the remaining part will grow again while the part which was taken will be put into the recipient area and it will grow there. there is a famous Dutch singer called Dean Saunder who is nw6 and always shaves his head to the skin who went through one HST session to fix his hairline and he still shaves to the skin after the HST (which means that there is no scars) but now he has a hairline to frame his face (he still needs to go with many more HSTs if he is looking to address the other areas though since the maximum number of graft you can get in one session with HST is like 1500 to 2000),
Did any of you guys heard about HST (aka dr. Gho Procedure) ?
I know that I will never get back the hair I used to have before therefore im not looking to wear my hair long, all I wish I can accomplish is having a shadow of a hairline and keep my hair buzz.
Is my approach even doable ? please let me know what you think.
Thanks again.

This is the place to be if you're genetically predispositioned to mpb at whatever level. But to think anyone here could advise in favor of plugs, well--I don't think it will happen. You don't say how old you are, but assuming in your early 20's I would expect that many of our younger members will counsel you to accept your genetics, embrace them, shave to the bone and move on with life. There's just so much more to life than a hairline, you'll find out. And--you can use the money for much better purposes.

Also, it seems to be a lot of pain, money and effort to go to just to achieve the shadow of a hairline when most people won't ever notice if it's there or not.

Hi LIW and welcome to the forum....
I have never heard of the proceedure, but I never really thought about getting a artificial fix to a natural event in my life, I started losing my hair in my mid 20's and it just is what it is. I can only really share what my experiance is and I knew that getting any form of treatment would always have me looking in the mirrior for the next thinning sign and thats just not the way I want to live. One thing you state is "is i tried the buzz look but with no hairline (mine is receding badly) i look way older than i really am" - we all age, its just a fact, but what we can control is how deal with aging, you will notice on this site there are some sly guys in 50's and later but they show pride in how they look, they show effort in how they keep thier look and the age with pride, you may be surprised the % of chicks that dig older guys....
I have had nothing but a great experiance with my new look, I feel great, friends & family dig it, and I enjoy the me time associated with a well groomed dome

(not to mention other bennies associated with it).
As the others have wisely shared, you should give the SBG a test run and see what happens, do the shave every day for 30 days, get a nice shave kit (I got mine from Art of Shaving) and see what transpires.
If it doesnt work for you and this so called proceedure is not a fad and you just have to have that hairline you can still go that route in another month or so.
Wish you the best in your path....just remember its whats in our head that makes our quality of life great, not whats on it (or not on it).
Cheers,
Ty

Welcome to SBG. Having gone down the HT road myself, I would advise you just to shave it off and move on.

Welcome. I think the key to having a successful shaved head begins with you. You need to value and accept yourself and decide to improve and live life fully moving forward. And when you shave, acknowledge that it's a dramatic change and feel the freedom of no longer worrying about hairlines and coverage and such. Go with the 30-day challenge, shaving daily, for the full 30 days - which gives you and others time to accept the changed appearance. I will really be surprised if you do not find a huge boost in your personal confidence and enthusiasm at being the real you.

Dude, mpb is a fact of life for many of us. Drugs, plugs and rugs just don't work. Your hair is NOT you. Take the 30 day challenge. You can always grow it back if it doesn't work for you.

Firstly, welcome to the forum mate!
Secondly, why would you be wanting to go through what sounds to me, such an expensive and painful procedure, just to keep your hair buzzed? If I was willing to go through all that I would want to grow my hair out to headbanging lengths \m/
Like you, when I was buzzed I looked much older, I was told I looked 40 and I am only 25... but after shaving my head I have been told that I look so much younger, and I feel so much younger and better for it. If I were you I would give the 30 day challenge a go, you might actually like it

and if that isn't the path for you, then your hair will grow back and you can try out any procedure that you like.

Welcome! If your hair is causing you this much unhappiness, it may be time to consider taking the plunge....The posts in front of mine say it all, especially IllinoisBaldy's (someone who speaks from experience). Good Luck!

Why don't you shave it first, and see if you like it? No one really cares about your hairline man! You may not regret the procedure, but later on life you will probably realize you didn't need it.
Post some pics on here...and the hopefully an after pic of you with a shaved head.

From your post, we can tell that you are expending a lot of energy worrying about your hair and what to do about it. Think of what you would put that energy towards if you weren't worrying about hair. I'll bet those things are a lot more fun and appealling.
If you shave your head, you'll have a period of adjustment during which you'll be anxious about people's reactions, whether it looks good, etc. But guess what? As we'll all tell you, that adjustment period goes very quickly - other people are busy and the novelty of your new look will become normal to them. Most importantly, you will be relieved of the anxiety of worrying about your hair, how it looks, how fast it is thinning, etc. If, in the worst case, you don't like the sly look, you can grow your hair back and go back to worrying again.
When you think it through, the answer should be pretty obvious.

Take it from someone who has been through mulitple HT procedures and a scalp reduction. DO NOT OPT FOR SURGERY. I can tell a HT victim from a mile away, no matter how "artistic" the surgeon. Stay with what you have, be a natural man. You will be glad you did.

@lostinwords, Please do not waste money, time and effort on transplants and drugs. Go against the mainstream options of trying to save your hair and rather take it all off. Quick, clean, neat and cheap! Be different, take the "I don't care what others think" option. Take the road less travelled, you may just like it! You can always do a U turn if the bald trip sucks!
