Going sly uncovered a problem
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:46:35 PM »
Hey guys,
I went sly in early March and since then, I noticed a mole on my head toward the back. My wife pointed it out and it became annoying because I would nick it when I shaved (with an electric no less!). I went to the dermatologist and she suggested to remove it so I wouldn't nick it....and just to be safe, we had a pathology done on it. Good thing because it turns out it was cancerous :o Not melanoma but squamous cell carcinoma. It's actually the second most common type of skin cancer. I had a treatment done today and they say they caught it in it's earliest stages O0 so it is cured. I now have to go in every three months for a full body skin exam....You can never be too careful so if you think you have a suspicious looking spot, get it checked ASAP!
So I guess I can say that going sly possibly saved my life!!!! 8)

Wow! That is definitely an unintended benefit of going sly.  O0
Glad you caught it in time.

Welcome!

Hi deman,
I'm really glad you discovered it and nipped it in the bud before it became serious. My road to becoming sly was actually a result of my cancer diagnosis in 2003. The chemo was making my hair (what hair I had, anyway) fall out, so I just hastened the hair loss a little by shaving it off. It was kind of my way of flipping the bird to cancer. I liked it so much that I stayed sly!  8)

While we're talking cancer and slyness, since we're getting into sunny weather, protect your domes.  Take time to put sunblock on' wear a hat or limit your sun exposure.  I'm not sure but I think that Headblade and Bald Guyz both have sunscreen products for us sly guys!

Yup, one of Headblade's Headlube products has SPF 30 in it.

Congrats on your new look and discovering a problem before it got any worse!

Sly saved your life.

I'm very moley. Before I shaved my head, I went to a dermatologist and removed two off the top of my head (I was planning on shaving and wanted to get rid of them)... plus a couple more. I haven't heard anything from them, so I think they're ok.

Definitely stocking up on sunscreen.
I can't say what I want to
Even if I'm not serious.

Good looking out!!

And good call on sunscreen for the dome. I have pale skin and have to be extra vigilant. Also have a couple moles on my head that I have to keep an eye on!

Take care,
Phil

Thanks guys for all the well wishes! This definitely opened my eyes to see that it can happen to anyone. And Schro, good luck to your Sharks against Detroit. My Hawks tried but just came up short, but I'm proud of them! Was looking forward to a rematch but oh well!
