Panasonic ES LA63s Vs. Conair Cleanhead Vs. Gillette Fusion
« on: April 20, 2011, 02:30:28 PM »
So I started shaving my head with the Gillette Fusion and loved the results but hated the irritation and breaks I got from shaving with it.  I tried to stick with it but I couldn’t get my irritation under control.  I finally let my head heal up and I decided to enter the world of electric razors.  I started surfing the forums and read how a lot of people had success with the Conair Cleanhead.  I decided what the heck and picked one up at my local drug store.  I really liked it the first few times I used it but it seems I always missed some spots and after a few days the hair that I continued to miss became longer and longer and I needed to go over it with a razor, which is not a big deal but in my case causes irritation.  I also noticed that you had to use it everyday.  Even two days of growth is basically too much for the Cleanhead to handle.  It gave a decent shave though, I would say on par with shaving WTG.  It just always seemed like I had stragglers on my head!

After trying the Cleanhead with mixed results I started surfing the forums again and found a lot of people had success with the Panasonic ES Linear shavers.  So I looked online and read some Amazon reviews and decided to purchase the Panasonic ES LA63s Wet/Dry Shaver.  All I have to say is WOW. This thing blows the Cleanhead out of the water.  It has four blades and has so much more power (14,000 rpm motor).  So far I’ve only used it wet but it gives awesome results with no irritation.  I would say on par with ATG razor shaving.  When I’m done shaving with this thing I feel absolutely no stubble at all.  The one nice thing about it is you can use it on your face as well.  I’ve been using it with Shave Secret and Gillette Shave Gel.  I would highly recommend this shaver for anyone that wants to try an electric.  I will say that it is rather pricey but I’m going to use this as my main shaver for my face and head.  The shaver also has a LCD screen on it that shows battery life remaining and shaving time.  This morning I was able to completely shave my entire head and face in 8 minutes.  I’d say that’s pretty good.  I would say the only drawback to the Panasonic is it is hard to edge goatee or beard lines with it.  I usually use my Fusion to outline my goatee and then the Panasonic to do the rest.

Anybody have any other experience with the Panasonic Shavers?  I’d like to hear whether you use it wet or dry and what products you use with it?

Although I am a HeadBlade man I tossed some change on a Panasonic ES8243K a couple of years ago for those days that I just want a quick touch up. I think that it was one of the first linears and I got it after reading a post from Simply Red in this forum. Of course, compared to the new Pans it's probably antiquated by now but it still works great.
Prior to that I had an old Braun Series 3 that does OK on the face but was never really up to the challenge of the dome even after getting new blades and screen. It gives a visibly decent shave but the feeling is that of velcro, especially when wearing a skully.
I can use the Pan wet or dry but when I'm using it dry I use a pre-shave called Afta by Mennen. I used to use Lectric Shave until one of the guys in here reported corrosion problems that he thought were related to its use. In any case, after shaving, I always prepare a cup of hot water with some Dawn dish soap and I run the razor in it in the clean mode to get all the gunk off. I'm probably a little obsessive about cleaning but it only takes a minute and replacement blades are not cheap.

Thanks for the props Budda.  Every now and then I use my old Panasonic Linear and it cannot hold a candle to the new one.  With the price of blades and foils it is much more cost effective to buy yourself the latest generation Linear every couple of years.

I shave with oil and gel, wet in the shower.  99% as good as a blade shave.

Cheers,

Look in Google for the Panasonic Premium Store. While Amazon and others can give you leads to decent prices for new and used this place sells mostly refurbished equipment. I had my hang-ups about refurbished until I read a review about re-furbished electronics where the writer basically said that what you are getting is a new unit with all the bugs fixed in advance. This is where I bought mine and I would definitely go back. I have not had a single problem with my Pan since buying it from them.

I took your advice today, and bought one of these from the Panasonic Premium Store...

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it does the trick !  So tired of spending an hour in the shower, and cutting myself up with the Gillette GoodNews on my face and head !

Thanks for the recommendation, and I'll be hoping for the best !

I've been using my Linear now for a couple of weeks and this thing is amazing.  I use it for my head and face.  The only problem area I have is my neck by my adam's apple.  For some reason I can't get all the hair and it gives me a lot of irritation.

Any suggestions on the neck irritation?

Wow - got my new Panasonic ES LA63s today, tried it out dry, and it's really amazing !!

It seems to be true that you "get what you pay for" ; pretty pricey, but it's nice to spend some money on something, and have it work out great. Case in point - this Panasonic ES LA63s, the first time using it, gave me a razor-quality shave, no cream or oil - just alone, and with no cuts or irritation that I always had with the razor.

I'm very impressed, and can't wait to use it for 30 days ( as it recommends ) before it supposedly "gets good"... I can't imagine it doing much better than the first run through today, and it's nice to know I can shave without spending an hour in the shower anymore just to get a close shave on my head and face.

Highly recommended.  :@`

I'm using a Panasonic 8109 wet/dry. I used to use it for face shaving before I went sly but I prefer the Norelco electric for face shaving. So, this Pana shaver was just sitting in my cabinet and I tried it about a week after going sly. I swear by it now. And since I have a family member working for Panasonic, maybe I'll get a new one and try it! And JF, don't forget to keep the blades clean! 8)

Congrats on your new purchase.  It sounds like you're have great success with it.  I'm loving mine.  I've been using it every other day and it cuts right through.  I love the timer feature.  When I first started using it it took me about 8 minutes to shave my head and face.  I have since grown my beard back and I'm just using it for my head and I've cut that time down to 4 minutes for a complete head shave.  Honestly it takes longer gettin my shaving products out and then cleaned back up then it takes to actually shave my head, lol.  Anyway good luck with it and while you're at it try a wet shave to see how you like it.

Sorry for digging up another old topic, but this was a great review, and has sold me on trying the panny out. I love my cleanhead but it does miss a few straglers. and takes a bit many passes to get as smooth as i want.
