HeadBlade Triple Blade Issues
« on: April 17, 2011, 10:25:29 AM »
Ever since the HeadBlade came out, I have been a great fan of the company and it's products!  I still am for the most part.  But I am about to give up on using triple blades on the HeadBlade.  I have used triples in the past with minimal problems.  But a couple of months ago, I bought some HeadBlade branded triples.  The first blade I used, the very first time I used it, I slice my noggin twice on the same side!  I did not use that blade much longer.  I then found a pack of Gillette Atra razors and used that with no problems.  Well, the blade got worn, so I tried to use another triple out of the same pack.  Even as I was wonder if I would get sliced, sure enough, it happened again on the other side of my noggin!  Plus today I was getting ready for church.  Thankfully I had a stiptic pencil to control the bleeding.  But I sill put a bandage on.  But that sucks!  I ended up throwing out the remainder of the triples.  But have any of you noticed that it is more difficult to find Atra cartriges or store brand equilavents?  If I can't get those anymore, then I will probably quit using the HeadBlade but still use the lotions etc.  Thanks for letting me rant!

I've also been struggling with blades recently. The headblade triples work well for me - so I've had to stock up when I find them as they aren't always available, and are also a little pricey!

Tried Gillette Contour (called different things in different places) and had my very first nicks - two in a matter of moments (went back to the HB triples). Then had great success with the Gillette Sensor - best shave ever. When I went to the next blade in the pack, what a disaster ... patchy, stubble everywhere, slices, irritated the heck out of my skin with all the repeated passes ... went back to the HB triples.

Tonight I sat and tried to work out how one pack of blades could give me both the best and worst shaves with the HB. Discovered that the black adaptor only fits properly one way (and I had it the 'other' way the second time around). Didn't shave today as I was fed up with the hassles. But now am looking forward to tomorrow to see if I've resolved the issue. If I have, then I've solved my blade and budget problem.

For me cuts happen for two reasons. Either the blade isn't staying flat (correct angle) and it "bites". Or if the blade isn't square to the direction of shaving, and starts to slide sideways ... that's why I don't like using the mirror ... my eyes try give my hand instructions, but back to front, and so I turn my hand more sideways than more square! Shaving tricky bits with my eyes closed has cut down (not sure if that qualifies as a weak pun) on nicks dramatically.

MArsh... if you have CVS stores in your are, go there and check out the CVS CV3 blades. They fit the HB yellow adapter, are cheaper than the HB triples, and they give a great shave (they are triples).

Before you give up on the Headblade, try using disposable Custom Plus 3 blades. (see Custom Plus 3 thread.)
I find that the rinse out easier that the HB triples, and cost less.  A pack of 4 costs $5.50 - $6.50 depending on were you get them and if they are on sale.  For me they last about 10 shaves if I put a couple of drops of rubbing alcohol on them after a through rinse and patting dry.

One thing I noticed, is that I have to be careful taking the HB Triple out of the pack.  I've been known to bend the CRAP out of the blades by pushing the caliper in too far before I close it to remove the blades.

Marshd, you should try the Rayzor Blade. No triple blade issues, pocketed designs prevents you from cutting up your head. For a smooth finish, triple blade is the way to go.

Marsh, I know what you mean. I throw away every HB Triple I get and I use either Atra or Sensor doubles. I get the very best shave with the Sensor blades. O0 I have tried Atra and Sensor knock-offs and end up changing them more frequently. Amazon is a great place to stock up on both types of blades.
Tis better to have a bald head than no head at all.
