Thinking of upgrading to a smartphone

Lately I've been thinking of upgrading to a smartphone.  My contract with AT&T isn't up until January so I'm not eligible for an upgrade until then -- although they will let me upgrade to an iPhone in October (but not right now for some strange reason.      ).  If I can find a reasonably priced phone, I may just go ahead and buy one.  Amazon Wireless seems to have some decent selections.  Does anybody have any recommendations on what I should buy and who has the best deal?  I don't need anything too fancy -- just something that will let me surf the web and read emails.

The only problem with Amazon wireless is yes your able to get smartphones at a super cheap price but you have to be either out of an existing contract or switch to another phone provider....IMO your better off paying full pop for a smartphone and calling it a day believe me I've been down this road. I'm most likely going to get the nexus s phone in a few since it's coming to sprint in about a week, its a true android phone without any of the bloatware....

My understanding is you can buy a replacement phone at more or less full price without altering the existing contract from Amazon -- though their prices seem to be a little better than AT&T.  I'm also guessing that like most Amazon purchases, there isn't any state sales tax added.

Blackberry, supplied by the office, here.  Great, long battery life but the screen's really small for any serious surfing on the web--and I don't use it for that except rarely.  Friends who are Apple Heads are always looking to charge up on their iPhones--and Droids are also power hogs from the guys who carry them.  Apparently you can turn off the background apps and save power, but that seems like a lot of work for nothing.  Yeah, I'm a Crackberry addict, but at least I'm not always looking for a plug to recharge.  Most important thing is the service, I have been extremely satisfied with Verizon, in fact about a year and a half ago I was working on matters in Atlanta, the headquarters for att, and guess what, we depended on my verizon cell--the company's att service [since changed to verizon] kept dropping calls--in Atlanta .  You can imagine what happens most other places.

I'm on Verizon and have a Droid X. I love it. It is very easy to read and has great battery life.

If you want to stick with AT&T I'm sure they'd have something similar to the X over there.  There are many many apps available in the market for android phones too.

I've had a iPhone since they were started. Wouldn't think of switching. Everything works and Apple has the best customer service around.

I have the Motorola Defy on TMobile.  It has the Motoblur launcher, like the Flipside.  Motoblur is ok (has a lot of nice widgets), however, it becomes choppy when scrolling through the apps drawer and sometimes switching homescreens.  I downloaded Launcher Pro (a home launcher replacement) and it made a world of a difference.  Also look for Swype if it does not come with the phone.  This allows you to slide to each key to enter text, which sounds crazy but it works a lot faster than typing.  You'll be happy with an Android phone, I'm sure.  A lot of cool stuff you can do with it.

If you were to hold out until your contract renews, however, I would hold out and get the Motorola Atrix.  Looks a lot like my Moto Defy, but has the Tegra 2 dualcore chipset in it.  Motoblur is really fluid on this phone.

But, if you do decide purchase the Flipside instead... Texas Instruments thanks you for purchasing an OMAP3410 enabled product (which is a big customer of ours, so your helping me keep my job HAHA).

Boyz and their toyz!  Geez!!  I have customized vintage Blackberry (Bb) that is black and purple (violet for you guyz that think in more than 16 colors   ).
I love the stuff that the new phones can do and have thought about upgrading to something like the one Razor is looking at, but I hate what these companies charge for these toyz and those fees!  Yikes  
I pulled a fast one on my provider when I upgraded to the Bb from a cell phone, we moved the sim card to the Bb, but never activated the Internet.  I use the keyboard for texting.  So, no, I don't have email, and no, I don't surf the net on it; that's what I do at home on my PC.  Did I mention that I'm frugal (thrifty, aka cheap   )?  Anyway, I'm happy for you guyz with your cool toyz!  Part of me yearns for more toyz, but "gasp" at what price!

Can't beat iPhone ! Nothing else comes close IMO ! 8GB 3GS iPhone is Only $49 now. Having internet access is well worth it. I love the freedom it affords me & I seldom at my PC any more.
