Back of my neck?
« on: March 10, 2011, 06:48:11 AM »
Hey guys - been sly a bit over a month and have found myself recently falling into a pattern of shaving twice a day.  But I am running into a minor problem.

No matter how I approach things I can't get the coarser hair on the back of my neck.
I've tried ATG, WTG, across the grain, as wellas my Headclean with the foil as well as the clippers.  Been messing with this so much that the skin is getting a bit tender back there - no visible irritation just a bit tender.

I shave by feel and when I look back there in a combo of mirrors I don;t see anything too apparent but I can feel the damn things and I want SMOOTH.  Any ideas?

I've considered letting things settle down for a few days and then trying one of the hair removal creams in these isolated spots.  I know guys have reported problems wiht these ont he scalps but I'm thinking this area of skin might be a bit more tolerant.

From everything I have read about them I would NOT use any kind of hair removal cream. I think I know the areas whereof you speak and I usually have to go against and across the grain a few times to make the shave acceptable.

Try some different shaving products and perhaps a different method, but avoid the urge to use any depilatory chemicals.  The back of my neck is the only area where I have sensitivity, so I excercise extreme care there.  I really like Origins Firefighter to sooth razor burn and sensitivity.

I have the same problem.  The back of my neck is very sensitive and will get red if I go over it too many times with a blade or even an electric razor -- no matter how lightly.  I definitely would not recommend using any chemicals on such a sensitive area.

Subscribing cause that's one area I also can't fully "eradicate."

That "V" area is pissing me off.

I drives me NUTS - I can feel it but just can't catch it with the razor.  Feels moderately  coarse so I should be able to nail it.  I've tried up, down, from the left, the right, etc.
Also have tried the Cleanhead as well as my beard trimmer without a gaurd and I've resorted to the trimmers I use on the dog with a super fine blade.  Guess it's just something I need to learn to live with ...

Does not show it just annoys me when I run my hand over it.

I shave the back of my neck using noxema shave creme in the red can
and use wallgreens brand disposable razor to shave the back of my neck
followed by some witchhazel and that eneded my problems

As an example of why NOT to use the creams...I did. I had my wife apply it to that very area...as I don't like hair there, sly or not. Within a matter of perhaps 3 minutes, the pain and burning was unbearable as I jumped into the shower to rid myself of it. For the next week, I had a swollen, painful cluster of pustules covering the back of my neck and down between both shoulder blades. Sure, it could have been an allergic reaction of some type....but I've never had a similar incident before or after. My advice is stay away from those things. If God wanted men to use chemicals to get rid of our hair....He wouldn't have made knives, razors and sharp objects so appealing to us! :*))

Sounds like fun.

I've had this problem as well, and what has worked for me is the following.

I take a hot shower and really scrub my head well with one of those hand held loofa pads with Bald Guyz shampoo. Usually let the shampoo sit on the back of my neck for a bit as well.

Get out of the shower and dont' dry off my head at all. Apply Shave Secret, and whatever shave gel stuff I have sitting around. Usually Aveeno or Bald Guyz. Now, I'll put that on my head, starting with the back, and leave it on while I cut around my beard and the sides of my head. I don't usually shave the back of my neck without letting the cream or gel really marinate for a good 10 minutes or more. Then I put my chin to my chest and shave up from the back of my neck to crown. Sometimes if I have time, I'll shave down from the middle of the back of my head as well.

Letting the stuff sit on the back of my neck for as long as possible has really let me get a close shave. That's really the only spot on my head that's hard to do from time to time.
