when to shave

i've been pondering shaving head for some time now. the problem is I have grown rather fond of my curly locks.
Ive lost about 2 inches of hairline in the past 3 years, and at this point I don't think it looks that bad. however The problem with curly hair and a rapidly receding hair line, is that I'm quickly taking on a similar appearance to that of Larry from the three stooges, and i figure I'm only couple years away from full stoogedom
. I'm inclined to try to go a few more years with hair, but even my wife is commenting that I look stoogish. most guys in my family are quite bald by 35-40, and I'm into my 30s now

You know what the future will bring, so do you want your hairline and your curly locks to go hair by hair by hair, or do you want to admit the "hair" part of your life is over and get on with living? When a forehead is moving to a five head, or about a III on the Hamilton-Norwood baldness scale, it's more than likely time. Try it for 30 days.

If your wife is saying you look stooge-ish, listen to her. That's not a good look on anybody.

Post a pic when you can, Mike.
Normally,
INSTINCT would incline me to tell you to just
Give SLY a TRY, and shave that melon to the bone, but (LOL) being told you look like
Larry Fine is something to be kinda' proud of too (in it's own way...sort of)-

as for the three stooges look, a complete disregard for looking stupid has always been one my finer personality traits. Ive had shoulder length hair to Bic shaved and every length in between. So I actually don't mind being shaved and did it briefly as a teenager. But between the blisters from sunburning my head, and a massive case of ingrown hairs it was a phase that didn't last long.
Maby I'll meander over to the grooming threads and see if you guys have good shaving tips. I would prefer to avoid a 2nd case of ingrown scalp
BTW, I didn't know there was a baldness scale.. from what i googled I'm somewhere in the 3A and heading to 4A range

INGROWN HAIRS can definetely dampen the spirits of a clean-shaven head - especially if
proper (or at least minimal) pre and
post scalp prep care steps are
ignored,
disregarded, or
unknown. It can be
EXTREMELY PAINFUL when those ingrowns decide to multiply and have a
"convention" atop the 'ol noggin!
Proper care can greatly reduce / (eliminate) the problem.Check out the
HEAD CARE TIPS section on the
MAIN PAGE of the Forum. It contains a
wealth of information that I think will help you out
trememdously.

I would say that since your hairline is in retreat, I would get your head shaved now & become bald by choice ---- beating nature to it !!
All the best.
