I'm riding my Harley!
« on: January 29, 2011, 04:06:15 PM »
Well, satisfying a long standing desire to get back to biking I bought a bike.  At my time in life, never having had one, it had to be a Harley.  Just picked it up today--OMG, riding is a great way to relax and enjoy life.  Fortunately it was good weather for biking here in South Louisiana.
My new toy:

Stopped for lunch at a hamburger place on the River Road--at least 15 slys in the place eating and drinking.  I stuck to diet coke, I think for safety it's on the wagon when I'm on the bike.  I am so stoked.

Nice bike, Saint.  Congrats.   Get a few more and we can start a sly biker rally.   But man, am I jealous.   My bike is still in the garage and from the looks of the snow here, will be for a few more months.  Enjoy and be safe

Good call on the alcohol. I have ridden with guys in the past who drank to what I thought was excess while up on 2 wheels. You only get one shot when you're on a scooter and I know a couple of guys who bit it big time.....not dead but long hospital stays and lotsa rehab. One guy with brain damage will never be the same. All because they couldn't wait for the end of the ride to get a buzz on.

Thanks Mike, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your advice and counsel in getting back on a bike.  Guys, if you're thinking about riding or getting back to riding, SBG has a great resource, Mikekoz13.  Knowledgeble, and generous with his advice--it really makes a difference in the process.

Thanks Paul.... I'm just a riding enthusiast. When I got back into riding after 15 years of not riding I knew only one guy that rode. He was a lot of help for me and I know how much I appreciated it.

One thing has happened, I only knew a couple of guys who rode, another attorney who's a classic motor fan, and the dean of the Episcopal Cathedral here in NO--he's relatively young, late 40's, and two years ago when they had a meeting of all the deans of the Episcopal Cathedrals nationwide here in New Orleans, he lead a parade of them down St. Charles Avenue from their meeting venue to the Cathedral on his Harley VRod.  Not too stodgy a priest! One person said that he brought communion to him in the hospital in his biker jacket, with the collar ;D.  He had ridden the bike out River Road to the hospital.    Since I bought the bike, I've found other guys I knew through the gym etc. also have bikes--there is a whole world of bikers just below the surface.

Something to think about!  I wonder how many of the Brothers have, have had, or want to have bikes?

Well, I don't own a morotcycle.  Never had a endorsement on my license or can I afford a cycle.  But that is a nice ride!  I would also bet that if you wear the proper gear that with the beard and sly noggin, you would fit into the biker crowd!  A few times, I have been asked about if I had a Harley or a motorcycle just because of the shaved head and full beard....especially since it has gotten longer!

Well, even into the most charmed of lives a little rain must fall!  It's raining here, has been since last night.  Apparently this is the weather system that will be headed up North to potentially cause more snow troubles for our Sly Brothers on the Northern East Coast.  We've got this drizzle forecast through Friday, then it's going to clear, highs in the 50's so I'll be on the bike next weekend.   C#)P

Age is mind over matter, if you don't mind, it don't matter.  I do not ever intend to go into that good night gently.  Riding, like a lot of things I do, help me stay in condition and staying in condition means you stay in the game.  I'm not a rocking chair kind of guy.  One of our good friend's uncle was riding his motorcycle over in the country across the lake three days before he died a couple of years before the storm--at 93!  Sydney squeezed everything he could out of life, and that's what I'm aiming to accomplish too.
