Balding at 19
« on: January 14, 2011, 09:27:42 AM »
Hi there i  would like to stard by saying i've been lurking here quite a while, and would like to thank everyone for advicce on balding.

My story is last september i noticed i could start to see my scalp through my hair, just starting college this was a major blow to my confidence, it's hard being the only one of your friends at 19 starting to lose their hair. I spent months in rejection of this trying to hide it and cover it,  eventually and really quickly it got worse i finally accepted it and shaved it off. this is supposed to be the first step of acceptance and it was a big leap for me.
this turned out alot better than i expected, some say i almost look better than before. after a while it became second nature to buzz it off again and i started to focus on more important things.

For those of you who are in the same boat as me don't worry. you learn to accept it as part of growing up and learn there are more important things than hair in life. also  i find that i get better service at stores or restaurants.. though i think they are intimidated by  someone witha  shaved head. still pretty cool :D

Eventually i will go full Sly but will wait untill it gets worse and i have lost weight.

With hair:

Welcome to the Forum, D!

Way to make that pre-emptive strike! I notice that many, mnay young guys where buzzed cuts these days. My 13 year old son wears a Marine cut and can't stand when it starts to grow out.

Stick around and join in!

Looks great, and even if you're not fully sly, you get to enjoy not having to worry about styling your hair... just wash and go.  And if you have your own clippers, you can keep that look easily.  If I had as much hair as you, that is probably the look I would have, at least in the winter.  Welcome aboard, and glad the folks here could be a help to give you that little push.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Way to go ...
i just found this site last night, & i have always had a full head of hair until i noticed my hair thinning on top a few months ago and will be buzzing my head soon.. I just turned 25.  FYI  kelly slater the top surfer was voted best looking athlete in the world in 2010 by Sports Illustrated and he is bald ! He has dated women like Gisele Bundchen camron diaz  pamela anderson  and a few super models.
Just goes to show bald is in.. and i need to take the leap soon.

Gread look with a buzzed head. It suits you. You can go gradually shorter with time to get used to having no hair. You will know when you are ready to take the final step.

Great improvement
