Welcome to the site.  No real way to avoid nicking an occasional bump...but you can try to alleviate some of the bumbs themselves. Rub the area...especially after shaving with some witch hazel or similar cleanser. Skin should clear up in no time and then less bumps to avoid.

Welcome Baldraven.  Great to have you on board.  To avoid those nicks take your time and don't rush the shave.

Welcome to SBG, BR...

Leave your hat and coat with the SBG butler and come on in... I GUARANTEE you're gonna' like it here!!

Here you'll find GREAT SHAVING ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS, PRODUCT INFO, SHAVING SOLUTIONS, etc.. and just an all around great bunch of bald guys!!

As far as solutions to your posted question, I totally agree with the answers that have been previously posted along with a few of my own:

8)  Shower Shave if you can, rather than sink shave (a little hand held mirror can be your best friend in the shower
helping you to keep all your facial parts in tact).

8)  St Ives Apricot Scrub (or any preferred brand scrub) is a great prep for your scalp to release any such build-up of
dirt, oil, etc BEFORE you put any blade to your scalp.

8)  Rinse your blade often when shaving.

8)  After shaving, letting COLD WATER run on your scalp can help close pores.

8)  Use Witch Hazel after shaving to help prevent ingrown hairs, skin rashes, irritations, etc

8)  Change your pillow case frequently. (Clean pillowcase helps keep a clear head)

8)  DON'T try and get too much mileage from a blade. Dull blades will lead to nicks, cuts, irritation, etc

8)  AVOID shaving in a rush. Make time to do it right, and you'll end up with a much BETTER END RESULT!

These are just a few tips to keep in mind, and you'll undoubtedly get other great advice from many of the other SBG members as they log on and see your post! Enjoy your time here, and feel free to post up any questions you may have at any time.

Post up a pic when you can. Step-by-step instructions are in the "How do I..." section on the main forum page.

Once again, WELCOME, BR!  Glad you found us!

Welcome to the forum BaldRaven. For the bumps, I suggest going easy when you do the back of your head, and maybe not shave against the grain until your scalp gets used to it. Try using some Witch Hazel afterward, it's very soothing.

As far as what anyone else has to say about your shaving, just remember; it's your head and your choice of how you plan to keep it.  O0

When shaving the back in the area of your neck, make sure you lean your head forward this will smooth out those creases in that area. Welcome to SBG's .
