Day 6, 4th day of blades...couple of questions
« on: March 07, 2012, 02:13:13 PM »
Got a very close, very smooth shave today. This was my fourth day shaving with blades. It is the third day in a row that I have used the Headblade, and then got the rough spots with my  Mach 3. I am opening up the same spot with Headblade every day. Nothing major, but I am getting it every time. Should I shave around that spot with blades for a couple of days and just hit it with the electric? I got my witch hazel this morning. Will using it for a couple of days with out opening that spot help smooth it out a little so maybe I don't nail it next time I shave that spot with blades?
Also, today I got the back of my head super smooth thanks to a couple of tips from Mr Z, and Slyfive. However, a couple of places surrounding the cowlick area are still pretty stingy an hour later...very smooth, no bumps, no nicks, but it feels a kinda scraped...Could that be caused by my mach 3 blades dulling? The gel strip is not completely gone yet, and I wouldn't even consider not using it on my face. I don't have a heavy beard, and blades usually last a very long time for me...even after the strip is white...Should I not be using the same blade I shave my face with to shave my head? Any answers/advice appreciated.

Be sure to apply some lotion, balm, aloe vera after the shave to moisten the skin.  This may help. Almost like hand cream.

You're still pretty early on. While super smooth would be nice, your skin may still be a bit tender and would do well for a less aggressive shave just yet. It will toughen up pretty soon, though.  Some skin softening lotion will probably help.

Thx Mr Z,
I used the witch hazel, let it sit for a bit, then Nivea senstive balm, then Nivea sensitve lotion.
You are probably close to the mark with the agressiveness. I am kinda OCD when I take on something new, especially something I am excited about. I might be Gung Hoing it a bit.

I did exactly the same thing as you when I started, including opening up a spot repeatedly, I just hit it with the electric until it healed properly. And leaving it for a while before you put the lotion is a good plan, it prevents any stinging and makes sure your scalp settles down, I normally shave, have breakfast, and then put lotion on.

Thx...I figured that the electric was the way to go with that spot for a couple of days. I'll let it heal a bit so I don't keep nailing it every day.

I found out about it here...I put it on and let it sit for a couple of minutes before the balm and lotion. It's probably an extra step that isn't really necessary, but I tried it, and I like it.

Keep using it. You'll be glad you did as it really does work.  8)

I made it a part of my routine based on recommendations from you and several other sly guys who have been using it.
