Shaving against the grain....................Who does it?
« on: November 08, 2010, 02:49:34 PM »
I find that if i shave against the grain i get the best shave ever on my dome.  Very smooth and it keeps the shadow form my dark hair at bay longer.  Only problem is i cant shave it like this every day, its too sensitive.

I always shave against the grain.  Can't get a close enough shave otherwise.

I shave with and against the grain everyday. Not to mention shaving up towards the top of my head on the sides (seems some of my hair grows at odd angles.) I like the feeling of a completely smooth head.

ATG is the only way. I hate stubble. Try every other day.

If you want a baby butt smooth dome that really lasts, ATG is essential, at least for me.

I know many of you guys only shave with the grain, and that's ok... but as far as I'm concerned, if I'm not shaving ATG I may as well not shave that day.

I also always shave against the grain.  It took a few shaves for my pate to toughen up.  O0

But how do you guys keep your head from "breaking out" or being too sensitive from doing that? With my current razor i could use it MAYBE 3 times after shaving against the grain.

"Breaking out" is often the result of minor irritation from debris, dirt, etc. on the dome.  So wipe down with an astringent after finishing up the rinse--I use hydrogen peroxide.  Then a little benzoyl  peroxide and hydrocortizone lotions to control redness and any "acne" type reaction.  Follow with a NON-OILY after shave balm, I use Nivea Extreme, great stuff IMO.  Most important, wash that nice dome a couple of times a day w/ a mild anti-acne soap--remember there's nothing at all between you and the dirt and grime out there--at the end of a day outside you'll be amazed how much dirt accumulates on the dome!  Finally, make sure you change your pillowcases regularly--again dirt and oil, as well as those old hats that you never wash--that can cause trouble too.  If it sounds like a lot of trouble, just remember the pleasure of reaching up and rubbing a perfectly smooth scalp during the day--it's great stress relief!

That is information worth saving! Thanks.  I do use the Nivea after shave balm.  But i dont do anything else other than that.  Ill make sure to pick up some of the other things you mention.

I shave against the grain as well. I know what you mean about the odd angles. If my ears didn't get in the way, I'd be set!

I always shave against the grain...but I have it easy, the little hair I have to shave is very thin so I can use a razor for a long time before I have to replace it.
