Although I have a full head of, it's BBC for me. I love the look and feel of my shiney dome.

It's a little bit of both for me. Choice v. Genetics
I'm sure I got the MPB from my Maternal Grandfather, but my Maternal Grandmother went bald as well.

When I started to shave my head, I was experiencing noticable thinning in the front. But I would have to say that I am mostly bald by genetics. I have a bald spot on my crown and the top is very thin along with the continual recession. So going sly is much better! I should also say that both grandfathers were bald. My dad's dad had very little hair. My mom's dad had a bit more. My father never went totally bald. When he died at 69, he had very thin hair with great recession in the front but not a truly bald spot on top or in the back. I am now 50. I have less hair than my dad did at that age. So I will probably be more likely to be naturally slick bald.

I believe my mpb came from my maternal grandfather.
I had a similar question a while ago. Here is what I found out.

I'm planning to go sly by choice. My brothers have heads of thick hair passed down from my mother's side. I have thin hair and a bald spot like my father.

Both. Mother nature has been nudging me in this direction - but I decided to take the plunge and finish off what she was only hinting at. The hassle with BBC is the shadow!

Echo that. BBC, but I bet in 5 (or less) years it'd be genetics.

MPB!
Paternal grandfather still has a thick head of hear at 80, so did his father but all his sons have same thinning as i do and all started at the same time (early 20's) maternal grandfather is completely slap top but all his sons have full heads of hair
must skip generations or just luck of the draw
Either way i lessened the shock of mpb by buzzing my head at 15 and havent had it longer than 0 blade since! my brothers gonna have some problem wen it hits him (hair down to his shoulders) ouch!!

Grandfather on Dads side is bald. My father is super thin. Grandfather on Mom's side is Mexican (No, Im completely serious, cant you tell by my picture I got Mexican in me?) He had super thick luxurious hair. As for me, I am thinning a bit in the back but I have a full head of hair. I am BBC. Over 5 years now.

Well, I've had MPB for the past 10 years and it's not getting any better. I never met my maternal grandfather and neither did my mother so, can't speak to that. Started shaving by choice in the military back in about 2005 because I got tired of paying $10.00 a week for a bad haircut. Let it grow out when I retired in '07. Thinning middle on top leading to a monk's bowl in the back just really drove home that I should just stay sly. Besides, now it's $20.00 a week for a bad haircut.
Shaving is cheaper. I like it. My friends like it. My wife likes it. Just makes sense.

BBC. I do have a full head of hair, which comes from my mother's side. My grandfather had a thick head of hair when he died, and my uncle still has a huge bush of hair on his head at 60 something. My dad's side is/was mostly bald by genetics. My dad has mpb, but not too bad, and has been waiting for me to have the same. It never happened.
I shaved for a charity, so it's a huge shock for many people, but I do like it this way! I've been told I look like a cross between Vin Diesel and Joe Satriani!
