Daylight Savings vs. Standard Time
« on: November 06, 2010, 07:28:09 PM »
Which do you prefer?  I remember that for a year or two in Richard Nixon years and the fuel crisis we had DST year round and I, for one, really liked it.  I hate leaving work in the dark, I can go to work in the dark without a problem, but it's just depressing there's absolutely no light after work.  I wish we'd stay on DST year round.

I'm with you.  I love DST.

Agonizing over what cannot be is an insult to what is.

Either one or the other, just don't keep changing twice a year. I think Arizona stays the same.

DST?  Pure foolishness.  Studies have shown that when DST is in effect there are actually NO energy savings; actually a slight increase in electrical use (mostly because the A/C is on longer, I think).

DST creates NO extra daylight; you just fiddle with the clocks.

The farmers?  They're self-employed.  They can get up when they want to or go to bed when they want to.  There's nothing about DST that is of any rational use for them.  Let them set their clocks to whatever they want.  They could make sunrise come at noon, and sunset at midnight if they wanted to.  Of course, they'd probably miss the "evening news" on TV, since it'd come at their lunchtime, but, Hey! anything for "more daylight."

The rest of us?  Slaves to the clock.  And, until DST was dumped today, last week it was still the moment of sunrise when I arrived at my office.  I do NOT need that.
