For those who are worried about reactions at the office ...
« on: October 12, 2010, 07:15:09 PM »
While shooting the breeze with some co-workers today, one of them asked me how long I'd been shaving my head.  My boss commented that he's never seen me with hair and didn't believe me when I told him that he has.   I didn't start shaving until a good nine months after I started working for him.  Just some further anecdotal evidence that the rest of the world isn't obsessed with our appearances as we tend to think they are.   ^-^

I used to work at a Call Center for a Health Insurance company. I started working there in late 2005, when I still had hair. The following summer was the very first time I ever shaved my head and the outcome was very positive. My female supervisor gave me a huge compliment on it because she said I looked younger.
I was eventually laid off from the Health Insurance company and hired by another call center. I had my head shaven bald when I first got that job. I was pretty much hired on the spot.
I did eventually take another part-time job after work and this was the first negative experience I had with a shaven head. I was hired at a clothing store in a shopping plaza and the assistant manager hired me. About two days after starting there, the store manager looked at me and my bald head and I had the vibe that she didn't like it. I know she singled me out all the time by accusing me of mistakes that other employees made. Even when the store manager was wrong she always found something to complain about me. Two weeks or so after I started, the store manager approached me and said, "I do not think this position is going to work out for you." I was left go. I even overheard a conversation with the assistant manager, with the store manager stating, I looked like a "satanist"
Eventually, I found another part-time job at a clothing store in the mall. The store manager not only liked it, but she encouraged me to keep a shaven head.

It's not worth going getting arrested, getting a fine, or even jail time over that lady.

I am really surprised they gave you a hard time having  a shaved head   - it is so acceptable around the New York area  - -

Just do not try to get a job with tattoos or piercings  - -they will not even look at you here  (a  female  can have pierced ears)
