When is Cable (TV, Internet, Phone) too much Cable.?
Well, my view is seriously influenced by the behavior of our local company, Cox, after Katrina--and for that reason, any cable is too much cable for me. After we got back into our home, one semblance of normalicy was that the cable worked, for a week! I was still assigned to the cruise ship living situation but I could spend one night a week at home. The second "home day" I was in the yard and I saw the Cox truck moving down the street DISCONNECTING all cable--mind you it worked, but they were disconnecting everyone! I asked the guys what they were doing and they just said, "Call the office." Well, calling did squat, and the service stayed off for more than two months! If I had switched to cable TV, phone & internet I would have been up the creek. Our land line worked so I had dial up and a phone. That was the moment that I knew I'd be dropping Cox and did so when we got our flat screen HDTV. Cox meanwhile struggles to survive and I have no sympathy for them at all. I suspect they didn't want to expend money to offer service to the vastly reduced market as the City repopulated--it's just my wild assed guess--but not one house that I know of in my neighborhood is without a satillite dish now, not one. And I bet those numbskulls still haven't figured out that they did this, no one else.
2000 channels, and still nothing good on!
Same thing here, siantc----cable was gone post Katrina--and they did not care. I am now on DISH and have DSL--and am very happy. My cable bill kept going up every month for the last 4 months with NO explanation---I have an explanation---CANCEL!
Can you believe this... we still use wabbit ears! Yeah, we have a big screen, 20" baby!
Interesting, open ended question, TG.
In the House of Schro, we tend to be a few steps behind the times when it comes to technology (though we did get the kids an iTouch).
Neither myself or The Lovely Mrs. Schro are much into technology. Though I will admit, we absolutely love AT&T's U-Verse. IMHO, AT&T finally got it right. Bundled service with our cell phone (after they upgraded me with a free 3G PowerCell), home phone, TV, and internet coverage. We don't watch a lot of movies, don't download stuff, pretty simple family. Most of our entertainment is sports through our kids (
couldn't be more proud of Nicole and Alex).

That all being said, once TLMS and I are empty nesters, I could totally see us scaling back everything. Not into tech at all.
I am getting pretty tired of this "bundled business", and then they send you a monthly bill that you need to be a lawyer to understand. Getting pretty tired of it inching up every 2 or 3 months.
I haven't had cable in close to two years, and (other than Food Network) I don't miss it at all. I can catch most shows that I want to watch on Hulu.com, and although there are some pros/cons, there is no ever-increasing cable bill. Can't complain about that.
