Shaving my head causes bleeding
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:35:11 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the forum and just started shaving my head a couple months ago. I have the headblade sport and shave with it everynight. Yet even though I have been shaving for so long I  still cut my scalp... Why? My older brother who has been shaving his head for years said the the triple bladed headblade is causing because it dosnt  have the conventional five blades.

My guess is you're not keeping the HeadBlade in full contact with your scalp (front and rear of the HeadBlade) and/or pressing down on it.   :-\

the trick with the sport HB is little pressure in the front and slightly more on the wheel back side.

Which blades are you using on the HeadBlade?  I've been shaving with the HeadBlade for a couple of years and I rarely cut myself.

Welcome to the Forum!

I wouldn't consider 5 blades conventional. Try the double blades in the HB. Like Tyler, I have a Sport and rarely cut myself.

I do own a headblade, but haven't used it in about a week or so. I had the same problem when I first started shaving my head. I found if I turned the blade around and pulled instead of pushed, it would cause alot less irritation. I haven't used my head blade because I don't like Atra blades, and where I usually get Sensor blades, they are out of stock.
When I do buy Sensor blades, I usually buy the women's cartridges because I don't razor burn. I have used my wife's Gillette Venus and found they don't razor burn. She currently isn't using her Venus because we found cheaper women's three blade razors at the dollar tree. They are three for a $1. If I use men's products to shave my head, they will razor burn and cause my skin to break out.
For shaving I use the store brand version or Skintimate or some kind of women's gel to shave. I hope this may have helped.

I use double blades in my HB and rarely have any problems with nicks.

Thanks to the recommendation made by folks here, I just the CVS triple blades with my headblade.

- I started with the headblade triple and did not cut myself.
- I then tried the headblade double and cut myself like crazy
- Then I tried the CVS triple blade, no more cuts
- Then I heard great things about the sensor Excel and the headblade.  Tried it and cut myself like crazy.

I got a closer cut with the double's but it was not worth the nicks.   I stick with my CVS triple and remain nick free.  Been shaving with the headblade for about 7 months and will not go back to a regular blade.    I do touch up with my Excel or Mach 3 if I want a really smooth dome.

Long winded point. Try different blades.  I bet you will find something that works for you and your headblade.    Also, I love headslick.    I left it in the shower one day and my wife tried it.   She swears by it and stole my headslick!

Or give up on the HB and use a Mach 3. I rarely cut myself with the Mach 3, and gave up on the HB long ago.

I use my Headblade all the time and rarely cut myself...maybe 3 or 4 times in 3 years...

I noticed when it happens it is usually a new Headblade Sport I'm using with a new Headblade Trip Blade in it...

...and the fact that I usually get too comfortable with my shave routine and if I put it on cruise control...mentally...I get complacent and then OUCH!!!

Practice makes perfect!!!
