Welcome Bdizzle!
I'm three weeks in, so the memories of the pre-shave anxiety are still fresh.
I waited years because I was worried about the people around me. Each year, my hair loss got worse, and each year it bothered me more. The balding pattern was asymmetrical and weird. I wanted to shave but didn't want to deal with the comments and questions.
Finally, one morning I looked at myself while I shaving and said, "It's time." I decided anyone who didn't like it could kiss my ass, including my family and friends. I made this decision 48 hours before I had time to do it and I didn't sleep for two nights. On the day of, I went to the barber and got buzzed all the way down. I saw it and immediately felt some relief. Not bad. After reading up around this site (Thanks, Fellas!), I went shopping, rushed home and did it.
I immediately felt better. I actually looked good (at least to me). My wife and kids were a little shocked even though I warned them beforehand that I was going to do it. I'm not sure that my wife actually likes it, but she hasn't said anything overtly negative. She'll get used to it, and my kids already are.
The lesson for me was, it's not nearly as big a deal as I made it out to be in my own head. I've twice skipped a day shaving and found that it grows back fast. It will for you too if you decide you're not down with sly.
The whole thing IS IN AND ON your head! Don't do it if you're not ready, but recognize that sometimes we do a number on ourselves and that keeps us from trying new things. Read around this site. It's a treasure trove of useful information. The guys here are cool and supportive.
If and when you're ready, you'll know, and then you'll do it.

Hey guys, thanks for the input and everything. Sorry I've been reading the posts, but mostly just lurking. Anyways, I agree that it's not
terrible, but I think Razor X nailed it on the spot. I'm going to shave my hair down to a 0 in a week and a half or two, try that for a week (shave it every other day or so) and then prolly razor it all off. Thanks for the input and I'll keep you guys updated

I think you'll find that there comes a point where, even though buzzing is going to reveal some more scalp, it's a relief to finally expose it to the world instead of trying to conceal it or wondering if the thinning is as obvious to the rest of the world as it is to you.
The truth is, this is something you're going to have to deal with sooner or later, because your hair loss will become progressively worse over time. And even though we're rarely "ready" to take the issue on, I've come to realize that it's better to do so sooner, rather than later, because then you can move on and stop worrying about it.
Be sure to keep us updated.

Personally, I dont think you've reached dire need to shave yet, but it's your head... If you shave it down to a 0, you'll be back to that picture 1 in like 2 weeks. What the hell, give it a shot

Some us actually love to be bald shaved. It feels great. I always wanted to shave my head but was too insecure and did everything to cling to my hair including transplants even though I secretly just wanted to be a shaved headed guy. Now I can t be bald enough. You look great bald, why would you want any hair when it looks so good and feels so good to be smooth shaved ? You must have met women who loved your bald head ? In their hands, between their legs ? If you dont like shaving it I bet there are women who will do that task for you gladly.

Aloha and welcome,
The SLY GUYS have said it all... I can't say anything more except whatever your decision it will be the right one. For me the right one in May, 2008, when I was 67, was to go SLY! My wife then, and now, still thinks I look younger than my assigned years. For you it might mean more confidence, etc.etc..
Good luck (and smooth shaving)-keep us posted.

Oh man! Time flies, and whatever for some reason or another I never went through with it (scared mostly I'd say LOL). Anyways, I just finally shaved my head (with a razor even, no clippers) and I'm effin' stoked about it!

Anyways, if that doesn't load up here's a link to me fully sly
http://img43.imageshack.us/i/bald1.jpg/ (don't mind the stoic expression, I'm actually really excited to be sly)
Your guys thoughts/comments/concerns are greatly appreciated, I'll try to document the full process later, but right now I'm going to celebrate! haha

Well done mate.
Looking sly.

Remember it is whats in your head that counts, not what is on it.
