I had a #3 which is suitable for the time being, I plan to gradually become shorter until eventually completely shaven. I'll get around to posting a picture at some point, so watch this space.
Based on your photo, it doesn't look like you've lost all that much hair yet so you can probably hang onto those locks for a good while yet. However, summer is just around the corner, so if you REALLY want to give it a try, I'd suggest a timetable something like this:
1. Two weeks from now, buzz down to a #2 - not a huge difference from what you've got now.
2. Four weeks from now, buzz down to #1.5 - a little shorter, but still long enough to feel like you've got some hair.
3. Six weeks from now, buzz down to #1 -- now you're starting to get short, but remember it will grow back to #1.5 in about three days' time.
4. Eight weeks from now - this brings us to early June. You can now either go all the way, or you can buzz shorter to #000, #0000, etc. If you choose the latter, you'll quickly realize that you are, for all intensive purposes, already bald, so you might as well close the deal.
5. And now it's time for the Big Shave. Your hair has been buzzed pretty short for a while now, so you should have some color on your scalp. Remember that you can grow back to a #1 in a weeks' time. It may be less scary if you do this during a vacation or a long weekend, where you don't have to face people immediately. Gives you time to adjust. Before you start shaving, make the commitment to yourself that you are going to shave your head
EVERY DAY, for the
rest of the summer, even if (and especially if) you don't like it. No matter what. This is extremely important.
6. You are now officially a Sly Guy. And this is the part where I have to warn you that it is extremely likely that you will quickly become addicted to having a smooth scalp, making it very difficult to ever go back to having hair again. Welcome to our world!!
