What inspires you?
« on: September 25, 2010, 03:24:51 PM »
So when your feeling down, whether due to your hairloss or another aspect of yourself which you arn't all that happy with.. What gets you to snap out of it? What triggers the urge to just laugh and get on with things?

I ask this partly because i am curious of your individual answers and partly because i am currently in a bit of a negative patch, and am trying to get past it.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Focus!

It all boils down to where your focus is.  If you only or persistently look at problems and short comings, you'll be bummed for sure!
Keep your attention on those things that build you up and promise hope... then you'll have a balanced perspective.  Then your joy will return too.  Really!  O0

It's simple for me.  Life is short so there's no time to waste being down.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I'll echo Tyler here. There are NO bad days.... some days are just better than others.

I won't play the there are  no bad days card. There are and there always will be. It is up to you to understand that and to learn how to deal with it. I became involved in community service type organizations some years ago and found it to be a sure way to keeping myself on an even keel.

Just another echo of what the guys have said, the so-called "bad" days, those are the salt that adds savor and sweetness to the rest.

I'll respond to this little slap at me..........

It's all a matter of perspective. Sure I've had bad days... probably more than most people.......... but I CHOOSE to look at those days as SaintC said..... a learning experience that brings spice to life. I look at every day I walk this earth as a good day..... and sometimes, even on the best days, bad things happen.
Suck it up, handle it, don't let it rule your life..... and know that it's still a good day.

Hey Redgrave101.  :) There were days that I used to feel really down, especially when I was younger in my early 20's. In fact, it had gotten that bad where I had alot of people pressuring me to seek medical care, and eventually caved in. I really didn't want to accept the fact that it was a medical condition.
Eventually, I discovered that you need to show gratitude. You need to be greatful for things in your life. Especially positive things. I'm sure you have many things you should be greatful for, even things you don't really pay attention to or overlook. I'm sure you have family or someone who cares for you. That is something to be greatful for. Another great example is having a place to sleep at night. If you are employed, be greatful you are. There are plenty of things to be greatful for. * Name three things you are greatful for and post it.*

There is a little saying I tell myself when I'm down.

"Accept the things you cannot change, and change the things you cannot accept"

Hope it helps ;)

Well, I'm going thru a bad stretch at work, mainly because I had a setback, due to an oversight on my part.
I'm very disappointed in myself, but am using this as a learning tool to not make that same mistake again.

Ugh.

Hang in there!

All great advice ITT.  I agree with Koz; it's all a matter of perspective.  I'm not big into mysticism or religion, but here are a few quotes from the book "The Secret" that ring true to me:

-You can change your emotion immediately ... by thinking of something joyful, or singing a song, or remembering a happy experience.
-"All that we are is a result of what we have thought." - Buddha
-What are the things you are grateful for?  Feel the gratitude... focus on what you have right now that you are grateful for.
-When the voice and vision on the inside become more profound and clear than the opinions on the outside, then you have mastered your    life.
-Are your thoughts worthy of you?  If not - NOW is the time to change them.  You can begin right were you are right now.  Nothing matters but this moment and what you are focusing your attention on.
"There he goes.  One of God's own prototypes.  A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.  Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

An old bit from a German comedian:

I recently visited a friend, a millionaire. He thought he was the most unfortunate man in the world, because he let his shaving brush fall into the toilet.
So I took him aside and said, "Of course you're not well off, because your shaving brush fell into the toilet, but there are people who are much worse off than you - who do not even have a beard."
Ach du meine Nase!

It's about being positive and being greatful for what you have in life. Everyone does have bad days, but we can only hope for the best.
