It's kind of hard to know exactly how you mean that question... some of us still remember the war there.

Ahh sorry, I didnt think about that when I put this up. I really didnt intend to bring memories back for people who remember that. I was just wondering if anybody had been recently (last 10 years) in terms of any lingering prejudice, customs I should be aware of and the like. Appologies if anybody mis-understood the post!

I have not been there, but I have a student from Vietnam that lives with my family. Where are you going to be there?

Heat is around 34-36 celsius during the day, which isnt too bad but in full overalls and hard hat does get very tiring! As for humidity...not too bad actually not as bad as I thought! Anyways hopefuly another 4 days and I'll be on my way home!

Don't worry, it's a friendly place and you should not have any problems. It is now very open to Westerners and is a big destination for people like us in Australia. A little like Thailand, but many say it is better. Enjoy !

It's great you're traveling to a more off the beaten track place. I had some friends go to Havanna a few years ago (via Mexico) a few years ago. The different places provide better stories to tell,

Hi Gents. Thanks for the advice etc, I return home tomorrow.
Fortunately (or unfortunately sometimes) I have to travel to places like these with work quite regulaly...I've even had to travel to Iran (not much fun!!). However on the plus side Vietnam was very enjoyable...for a work trip at least!
I wouldn't say it was better than Thailand though....just different...supprisingly so actually! Main problem is not much English is spoken...and even those more proficient tend to read and write it better than speak it!
