Hello there from the lone star state. Glad to see there is a forum like this on the net.
Well, here's my story. I am 34. I forgot when I noticed I was first going bald, maybe when I was 30 or so? Not sure. Well I think my first head shaving was 12-30-06, although it was only a no guard buzz cut, super short none the less!! I liked it and kept it up all through 2007. Some time in spring of 2008 I decided to grow it out, I guess because I figured girls liked longer hair? Anywho, I grew it out pretty long, and you really could not notice my MPB, I had bangs down to my eyebrows. It was sweet. Well, eventually I began cutting the hair shorter and shorter myself so I did not have to waste time/money at the hairdresser.
Since then I have been just shaving it to a size 4 or so. Well, everyday I wake up and see that thinning hair and wonder when it's really gonna start to come out. When that day happens, I will for sure be shaving regularly. My plan is to let my hair grow out the rest of the year and then shave it 1-1-11. I want to try to have my beard and head shaved at the same length.
I do have a mole on my head which will require a little extra attention. I can't seem to figure out what "sly" means or stands for, at least when it comes to balding.

Austin,
Tyler (
owner and moderator) would be the best one to answer this question. I know he's answered this question before and I was searching for that thread on the forum and post the link here for you, but could not locate it. There are so many posts within the forum that i
t's like looking for a thread in a (ahem) "hair"-stack!!

If i can remember correctly, I think - among the many reasons Tyler chose the name
"SLY BALD GUYS" - one of those reasons is merely because
it has a nice ring to it.
As Tyler, or one of the other members read your post, either he (or they, or BOTH) may be able to add more information on the subject matter for you.
Lots of good information here on
ALL aspects of shaving - and life itself.
Feel free to post a question or leave a comment. You'll not find a greater bunch of guys anywhere on the www.
- Cap'n Noodles - Welcome. Glad you found us.

Welcome to the site! Why wait though? Give it a shot now and see how you like it. Nothing wrong with being bald by choice!!!

Welcome to the forum, Austin!
Although we've had quite some fun here with countdowns to going sly in the past... don't wait. The day you're going sly will be special on it's own, not because of a magic date.

Well, one reason I don't just do it now is because I am lazy. I hate shaving in general (my face) and do it every other day, just to maintain a clean look for work. When I regularly shaved my hair at size 4, it was done every couple weeks I believe. I can't imagine shaving my head every day, but then again I guess once it becomes routine it's no big deal. My MPB is not too bad yet and growing my hair longish on top makes it fairly unnoticeable, so I want to enjoy what is left before it gets too bad, at which point I will shave it regularly. Of course I could go bald by choice!

You have to do what makes you happy, but from my experience of a combover, I didn't intend to do it, I just sort of backed, or as we say in Louisiana, crawfished, into it--and I regret all the time I spent there. But as you say you could go BBC, and if you've got the itch to try it out before you "have" to do it, it grows out fast.
