Three years ago my company started making each of us "Professionals" give a Presentation of our past years work. We have to create a powerpoint and then present it in front of all of our upper management, some HR people, and even a couple of co-workers waiting for their turn.
I LOVE seeing the look on the new people's faces when I walk in...... 6'-1" tall, 220 pounds, shaved head, tattoos all over me, Harley shirt and motorcycle boots, and Baltimore accent. I can always tell the new people because they stare.... which is ironic to me because our company strongly promotes diversity of ALL kinds.
Well we have to arrive ten minutes or more before our own Presentation so we are their and ready to roll when it is our turn. So one of my longtime co-workers was sitting in the room when one of our newly hired co-workers (about 6 months) gave his. My Friend said that this guy beat his chest over and over about how great he was and how he was "the only one in our section "that has ever completed a task using XXXXXXX".
Well that statement was just flat out false. I had a task on my computer that I had literally just finished a task doing what he claimed but to a much greater degree. Well Mr. "I'm the greatest" walked into my cube as the other guy and I were talking. He had his chest all puffed out. I calmly looked at him ands said" By the way, you're not the only one that has done X, check this out". And I showed him...
He felt compelled to walk away with his tail between his legs and then a few minutes later send an email to the HEAD of our Group sayinjg that he didn't have his facts straight and made soem incorrect statements in his Presentation. Normally I would applaud a guy for taking this step but this guy is such a sneaky, back stabbing little a$$hole that I just laughed at it.
I always applaud a guy for doing good work and telling what his accomplishmenta are but NEVER at the expense of others. When he made the statement "I'm the only one...." it was perceived by EVERYONE else as a backhanded slap at all of us. This guy has quickkly become the Office Ass kisser and is constantly up the bosses ass... we're all sick of it.
WTF is wrong with some guys?.... I'd love to take his butt outside and dole out a little "city justice" but that's not a healthy way for me to stay employed.....
I have NO problem setting a guy straight.... that's why they call me the "Office Linebacker"........
I know its hard, but try not to let him wind you up. It sounds like he isnt worth it and you are worth 10 of him. Rise above it. If your managers are worth their salt, they will see through him.
The medical field is FILLED with jack-wads like that. Sorry people who make sorry workers---and worse friends! EVERYONE who counts knows who does the work and where the great ideas and results come from....he might have dug his own grave---he just picked the shovel up when he did his presentation.....Hang in there, bro....I have had to many times in my career! We know you are right!!
This a$$hole doesn't bother me..... I just can't stand people with no integrity.......
I call that cr_ppy attitude, "flagging" that is to say trying to plant their own personal and exclusive mark on ideas and concepts that in many cases and at worst they didn't have anything to do with, or trying to steal--yes it's theft--other co-workers' contributions. I've seen this in every working enviornment I've been in, and it's always done by the marginal "minds." Really pisses you off, but my experience is that they can't ever "duplicate" their "own success" and it becomes apparent that they are plagiarizing ideas and work they cannot duplicate or develop on.
It never works in the long run, because the guys that are real can create new concepts, and when they work with others they always acknowledge the contributions of the team. The Flaggers always F themselves up.
Koz, tell us how you really feel...

But don't get too worked up over it.
There are scum out there. Sooner or later they all get what they deserve.
We had a guy that was lower than whale poop and HR knew it from all the complaints; but couldn't get the dirt on him. As it turns out, one guy had been quietly documenting every incident. No one knew. One day an HR person expressed their angst to this quiet guy, and he just said he had a whole folder on the scum guy. The HR guy asked for it and before you knew it, the scum guy was gone.
Things work in mysterious ways sometimes...
