Go Get a Massage
« on: September 03, 2010, 06:23:28 AM »
So, I'm taking this massage therapy class because my GI Bill covers it and my wife's got fibromyalgia and its cheaper to go to school than it is for her to get on someone else's massage table once a week.  Besides, I like it and I'm finding that I'm really good at it.  Who knew?

Anyway, especially for you guys that are new to the sly life, I would recommend getting a full body massage and ask that they spend the last 15 minutes on your dome.  Try to shave right before you go for full effect.  You'll be surprised at how much tension that you've kept in your head.  For me, having one of my classmates work on my noggin was just the perfect way to confirm that this is the way to go.  If you can't afford a full body massage, ask if they've got a 15 minute chair massage option and ask that they just work on your head.  They will NOT think it's weird, they know, trust me.

I'm afraid I would have trouble walking in to get a massage from a nice looking girl and asking her "to only work on my head".........

Then say "Head, neck & shoulders."  It's a common routine for MTs.

I've had a full body massage before and it was amazing! I wasn't sly at that point though.

On a similar thought, the lady that cut's my wife's hair was making fun of my "unibrow" one day and offered to wax it.  I obliged, and it wasn't so bad.  Anyway, for my birthday she offered to give me the total treatment.  Keep it clean guys! haha
Anyway, she told me to shave right before I got there.  I did and it was amazing when she massaged my head while the hot towels were on my face.  I go every year now on my birthday!  O0  I felt so metrosexual!  haha

I get a two hour massage once a month.  It's a true deep tissue massage and really gets me set for the rest of the month.

GA Slick.  I know you didn't mean to be offensive, but it's best not to compare, even on a free association, a Massage Therapist with someone who does waxing, herbal wrapping, manis, pedis, or any of that other salon stuff.  Those are specialists in completely different fields.  A Certified Massage Therapist thinks of themself as a health worker first and then as a service worker.  We're required to learn anatomy and physiology, most other spa workers aren't.  In many cases we're part of a pain management or trauma management team, working in cooperation with an MD, a Psychologist, a Physical Therapist, an Osteopath and/or a Chiropractor.  Some Massage Therapists go so far as to call themselves "Healers."  I'm not quite that puffed up.  I consider myself more of a muscle mechanic.  But I don't do waxing.

Tyler, that's awesome.  I've been getting and giving massages for a LONG time.  Been going to professionals for about 5 years on and off myself.  I just finally had the chance to take a formal class.  Mostly just work on family and friends.

No offense intended Timmer.

And yes, she is not a massage therapist.  She just massaged my head while my facial was setting in.  I have had a full body many times in the past, and I agree those people are highly trained to know what to do and where to have the most beneficial result.

I don't do it often, but it is a great treat when I do.

Sgt. Pete.  One of the reasons I'm in school is that we don't have any loot anymore and my wife needs to be on a table about every other week.  One thing to look out for is if there's a massage school nearby, there's probably a clinic attached to it where the students have to intern.  Students may not be as experienced, but they do their best because they're still trying to graduate.

I worked J-Staff for 9 years of my career.  If anyone needs a massage, it's a Marine.

I had a massage at the massage school last year. I thought it would have helped the degenerating disk my my back. My back is really sensitive where the disk is and when she would touch that spot, I nearly jumped off the table. The rest of it was great. Now I just get pedicures with my wife, when she gets them. She usually gets them when she has her hair done.  :P I have very feminine looking feet,  ^-^ that I inherited from my mom's side of the family. The nail tech, that works for my wife's beautician, even said I have very nice looking feet for a male.  :*)) My :D wife :D teases me all the time, jokingly, and calls me "girly fingers" or "girly toes."  I only wear a size 8-9 mens shoe size and a ring size 7-8 on my ring finger.
