On the fence, yes, but...
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:27:54 PM »
So I posted once here before and got some advice that perhaps my hair was not too bad yet and I should enjoy it while I had it.  I think I'll take that advice for a little bit yet, but I think more and more of taking to the razor.  I admire the courage and confidence here.  Whenever I have a day where I worry about hair, or other vanities, I come on here and read a bit and it settles me down.

But the point of the post is, Ive been thinking about the sly look so much I spent some time mkaing some photoshop fakies (not too well done mind you). I thought I'd post them and see what you guys thought.

I know I'm skinny and quite pale and freckly.. any color in the photos is just the light. I figure I can use some of that natural glow stuff to keep a little color, which is better than my snow white skin.

Anyway, do you guys feel like I could pull it off? Head shape and all? I'm not a fan of the length of my head by any means, but I guess it could be worse.

Appreciate the responses and looking forward to being a more active member soon!

I have a friend that also did a photoshop type pic...he did not like the pics he received.  When he finally shaved, he LIKED the way he looked.  It was a bit different than his photoshop look.  I think you should go the direction you feel is YOU!  Confidence--real confidence comes from the inside over what you have experienced and understand your limitations or LACK of limitations on certain subjects or circumstances.  You can have "made up" confidence all day--but it lasts about a day.....LOL.

Dude, go for it....you still have hair that will grow back if you do not like the SLY!  Remember, no one looks at you in 2D..,,you are a moving, live,  animate being with expressions and moods that effect EVERYTHING you do.  The photoshop pics do not reflect smiles and body language.   If you are who you want to be, then you will have made the correct decision.....Good luck, brother!

Yeah I know what you mean.  Pictures are certainly just a small part of the overall package. But its nice to get an idea I guess. Over all, I don't think they look that bad.. although I imagine my head would freckle up before too long... that can't be too pretty.

Thanks for the strong words!

I did the photoshop thing too and in fact posted them here back in early November of last year.  The encouragement I got from the crew pushed me over the edge.  Photoshop just doesn't do justice.  You'll look great sly.   Its such a normal look for guys these days that I don't even think about it anymore.  In fact one of my developers took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and went BBC.    Do it - you won't regret it.

Thanks for the push guys.  Yeah I hope I'll look alright. I know its the look for me sooner than later.

I definitely have some misgivings.. Anybody seen anyone with a profile like that, where the back of the head sticks out quite like that?

I know.. i know.. don't sweat the small stuff. but baby steps too ya know?

As the others have said, confidence comes from within.  Take something that is your weakness (how you feel about your hair) and turn it into your positive (how confident you will be when you are sly).  Your only regret will be waiting so long.

Hey man, the pics look good! You look very handsome, and I bet you look way better than those photoshop bald pics. I have very freckly skin too. Just make sure that you put sunblock on your head/get a really nice clean outdoors hat. My face used to be very freckly but if you could see my shoulders, they are full of them! I think your confidence will win out, I see a very handsome confident man in that picture. That's my two cents.

Remember, you go sly for the look, but you'll stay sly because of the feeling. And that's a thing you can't anticipate, you have to experience it yourself, and then you're there.

Don't waste your time, go for it!

Welcome.  Go for it, and if after 30 days you don't feel liberated and comfortable, let it grow back out, most will, and you can go bald the slow way, hair by hair by hair.  Take control of you life, it's really the only way to live.

All,

Thanks again for the support.  I'll probably go for a close buzz very soon and see how that feels. I'm a year round teacher unfortunately.. otherwise I'd just shave it off during a time when I didn't need to be at work. As is, I want some vacation time or something so I can get some time to put a little color on my scalp.. get used to it myself.

Anyhow, the idea of taking control of my situation is endlessly better sounding to me than a slow daily war with MPB.  I already spend too much time worrying about whether my hair is ok.  Absurd thing to think about in this day and age with all that is going on.
