Genetics and MPB

There is a belief that you get your "hair gene" from your mother's father. I know he was bald in my case so maybe it is true. Where did your genetics possibly originate?

If I got my hair from my moms side I'd have hair all the way into my 70's and 80's. Except I got my dads side, bald at 18. Lucky me!

Both were bald/balding. Strange thing, my father's brother and my father had balding/thinning hair, and another brother was an early VI, but I have two cousins who have seemingly kept every hair they were born w/, and not in a closet in a box either. Yet all the other male cousins on my father's side are bald too. Some of us are lucky, and I consider myself lucky.

My father's side no signs of MPB. My mother's side, all of my uncles and their sons have lost most of their hair.

Both grandfathers had full head of hair yet all my uncles on mothers side are bald as are my cousins. All my uncles on dad side are also bald/thinning. My father didnt start thinning until he was 40 though and i got hit at 22 like my mothers side. Either way I was always ending up bald

Good find, and the most querulous line was "It is almost like we should be studying why some men don't go bald!" As a site devoted to being and accepting bald, we really haven't dealt with this question, have we?

Definetly Dad's side./// The Koz men have had MPB for generations.
On Mom's side my grandfather was 1/2 American Indian and was still a stunningly handsome man with a full head of snow white hair on the day he died at the age of 76.

Dad's side, even though only my dad had MPB (at least that I know).
I wonder why people teach it's always mom's side on school tho.

I never met my maternal grandfather. I remember that my dad was balding in his late forties (much like me..thanks, Dad). My eldest brother, who is now 73, is just beginning to lose his hair. My next elder brother, who is 59, still has a full head of hair. Both of my brothers are also over 6 feet tall. I am 5'9" if I stand up straight. I think Mom was just tired by the time she got around to having me.

Though i've been bald by choice since the end of last year it's looking like my genetics are catching up with me!! I was a bit slack shaving recently and noticed my hairline has receded by about 2cm's since i started shaving last year!! If it's the genetics catching up both my Dad and my Grandfather and Uncle on my Mum's side are bald (though not as much as my Dad and his family!!)

my receeding hairline (just at the temples, full head of hair otherwise) doesnt actually come from any of the choices above, but from my grandmothers family on my mother's side: my mother's uncles all had the receeding hairline, but my mother's dad always had plenty of hair.

Neither of my grandfather were bald. A few of my uncles of both side are/were bald.
