Musings & Observations from Under a Bridge

On Monday I was riding home from work on my Harley and it started raining.... very hard. Traffic stopped about 1/2 mile from a bridge so I scooted onto the shoulder and slowly made my way up the shoulder to the bridge. I was pretty wet when I got there.
So I turned off the Bike, pulled a towel out of my saddlebag, and dried off. Then I decided to just wait out the storm for a while. The road went from two lanes down to one lane right at the bridge so traffic was literally creeping by. I was there for about 50 minutes so I watched literally thousands of cars creep by.
Here are some thoughts and observations from that 50 minutes:
1) There are a LOT of fat women in Maryland.
2) Not as many people smoke while driving as I thought (I'd say 30%).
3) I got propositioned twice while sitting there......... by two different women in two different cars.
4) Most people won't look a Biker in the eye.
5) Only two people stopped to ask if I needed help... both men.... one was an undercover cop.
6) Five motorcyles went by and not one even asked if I needed help. I NEVER pass a Biker on the side of a road without stopping to ask if he/she is OK.
7) A lot of people dress like sh*t to go to work.

1) There are a LOT of fat women in Maryland.
Sort of reminds me of about a week ago as I approached the elliptical machines to finish my work out with a 30 minute term on the machine, there was an "ample" woman working on my left. My mind passed to Robert Frost and his famous poem we all dealt with in high school, "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" and the refrain morphed as I watched this blimp work the machine, "And miles to go before I'm sleek, And miles to go before I'm sleek." Damn, I can really have some ugly mean thoughts sometimes.

Every should take advantage of a moment to watch and observe. You can sometimes plan for it but more frequently it just happens. Those observations and thoughts can tell you a lot about the world around you but also about yourself.

This is a great point..... and since I do NOT have a radio on my bike becsuse i choose to ride totally detached from the world (other than traffic)...... all I COULD do in that time was observe.
I'm not sure what my observations say about me though.... maybe that I'm an angry Biker that looks supicious to cops, doesn't like fat women, is sexy to (some) passing women, that can't stand smoking. Hmmm......

You can observe a lot just by watching.

Dudes.... I grew up on the very mean streets of Baltimore City. Believe me... I know a cop when one approaches me. The car is usually just a hint............. believe me Gents... it was a cop.
