Beards with MPB Buzzcut?

I have worn a beard most of my adult life, but it was with hair. Now that I am pretty much mpb, I was wondering what you guys thought of the look of a beard with mpb buzzed fringe? I'm not really sure that shaving the noggin fits into my daily routine, but I do keep it at a clippershave or #1 buzz. Do any of you wear a beard with a bit of mpb fringe or is it a bad look?

What's happening DA?! The idea of losing hair on the top is something we all wish could go away. However, your ability to grow facial hair provides you with the ability to neutralize what is missing on top. Not only would I recommend a beard, but I would suggest that you spend some time grooming and perfecting a beard stile that will suit you.

Absolutely! Facial hair and buzzed/bald/sly is a fantastic look.
In the winter (or what passes for winter down my way) I do the buzzed fringe with a full beard. The rest of the year, it's sly and Van Dyck (see left).

Two things: First, if you've had a beard that long it obviously gives you pleasure. There's nothing that says you can't continue to enjoy facial hair while accepting mpb and getting in front of it by shaving the fringe and thinning areas of your scalp. Some guys even feel that a beard be it a full beard, a goat & stache, whatever, compliments the smooth dome avoiding a look of too much skin. So go for it--even consider a change of your style if you've worn only one style of beard if you're blessed with the facial hair to do so.
Second, you raise a question that I had, whether shaving my head was going to be problematic as a part of my daily routine. Not only has it not proven to be a problem, but it's something I look forward to. It enhances the feeling of clean. IMO there's nothing as pleasant as rinsing off my freshing shaved noggin and feeling the smooth scalp while I'm rubbing in some after shave balm and sunscreen--don't forget sunscreen, ever. You may find it so too--but I really wanted to talk to somebody about that before I took the plunge, but never did--I only lurked here as a guest until I cleaned up my act. Glad you asked so you don't have to worry about that aspect at all. I hope you too find the satisfaction and pleasure of a freshly scraped grape--very satisfying.

not sure about a beard with a buzz, but beard and SLY look great: you only have to look around this site to see that!

I agree with Rob...beard, goat with SLY is awesome. I have found out since going SLY that I care so much more about my beard/goat appearence. I shave much neater and feel cleaner. SAINTC is also correct with looking forward to shaving and the feeling after.

My brother is wearing his MPB horseshoe and full beard all buzzed at #4 or so for many years and I think it looks good. I'm addicted to the smooth sly feeling though. As saintc said, shaving the dome is really satisfying. It is giving me the perfect start into the day.

Note to Mauricio: Your smile and your boy seem to tell us that you're moving on and becoming one with the sly look--that's a really good thing--glad it's working out.

Thanks Saintc! Things are getting better although some days are better than others! I'm working on getting over the shadow thing. Otherwise, i'm pretty happy with my decision to go sly.

hey man. I think both works well. Sometimes I am not always as tidy a house keeper up top...but, I like the contrast of full beard and sly best, however. Do what works for you.

I find the biggest obstacle in growing a beard has to do with maintaining an acceptable appearance in my office environment. My beard is about as long as I can let it get right now before I start getting remarks from co-workers. Also was curiously told this morning (after yesterday's trim up top) that I look like a 'skinhead' - I thought the beard would negate that look, but I guess ignorance persists.

Or, IMO, "ignorance" in many instances is displaced envy--they just can't admit they like it that much so they over compensate and what they say isn't really what they're thinking!

I see a lolt of guys here with a closely buzzed MPB fringe and full beard. I think the look works well for a lot of guys. It is about what makes you comfortable. Plus, you are not doing drugs, rugs or plugs or a combover! But I would give sly a try with the full beard and do it for the 30 day trial. You may actually like it. But if not, it grows back fast!

There is nothing a beard won't work with in my opinion! But I am very biased... haha
