Greetings all you Sly guys. I've been BBC on and off over the years (I'm a career Marine so it's been easier to maintain) however while deployed to Iraq last year, grew out my hair to pretty much the maximum length of Marine Corps standards. I since transferred across country to Camp Pendleton, CA and as I'm deploying to Afghanistan in a few weeks, it's time to "slick it and bic it again" so was wondering if anyone on here knew of a good barber here in the San Diego area that does shaves (preferrably north county however will travel anywhere for a good barber). This is by far the longest my hair has been in my 20 year career so I want the cut to be done right. Appreciate any info.

I wouldn't doubt that any "real" barbershop would have at least one barber that can shave you well. At the worst, just have them shave it down with clippers, no guard and then go home a take a razor to it yourself.
Welcome aboard and thanks for your service.

Welcome aboard Jarhead. Usually, around a Marine installation, there are barbers that specialize in high and tights. Maybe you could give that a try. Better yet, get you a good razor and shave that dome down to the bone. Keep your head on a swivel over there partner

Finally did the deed!! Found a barbershop in La Mesa that does straight razor shaves and went for it. I appreciate all the advice. Yes, in and around a Marine base, you can get a average haircut but most barbers, (especially the ones on base) are the bottom of the barrell and are working in a "chop shop" to half ass cut as many heads as possible as quality control is not a concern. Previously, I always shaved my own grape however since I grew out a huge amount of hair over the last year, I wanted the full experience of getting a barber shave and let me tell you....a straight razor head/face shave is definitely worth it for an occasional slurge!! If you're ever in San Diego, I have to recommend Dapper Jay's in La Mesa..awesome guys!!! I'm leaving for Afghanistan with a smooth dome and now realize how much I missed it. Hair is so overrated!!!
