I am so happy Couture made Toney look like a chump! I'm a fan of both sports, although a bigger MMA fan - but if Toney had been successful it would've made all MMA fighters look bad.

And how about that Frankie Edgar??!! Back to back victories over B.J. Penn! This makes the lightweight division a lot more interesting, without an untouchable, dominant champion.

Of course, it looks like the same thing might happen with the Middleweight division, with Dana White hurrying the rematch between Silva and Chael Sonnen. Last I read, the rematch is scheduled for later this year or the first part of next year.

Interesting times in the UFC to be sure, and their matchmaker is awesome.

Yep...nice night of fights. Couture did exactly what every MMA fan has tried to tell "Boxing purists" for years!!

Penn looked horrible last night.....not taking anything away from Edgar...he was a beast...but Penn was off.

ALSO glad Couture won....not even a fight. Toney looked way out of shape , not that it would have made a difference.
Edgar he's the real deal anyone that can make Penn look like an amateur.

I am utterly disappointed. Chael Sonnen put on an awesome show vs. Anderson Silva - and then comes back dirty on his post-fight drug test, something "performance enhancing." Now his great performance that night is being called into question, he's looking at a one year suspension, and the rematch between the two that Dana White was rushing to get made later this year or the first of next year is no more. Now Anderson Silva's next opponent will most likely be the winner of the Vitor Belfort/ Yushin Okami fight. **SIGH** :Xo!

Yep...couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.  Speaking of steriods.....Josh Barnett just signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce. That fight with Fedor could happen in the near future.

Well, I haven't had much good news in the MMA world, lately - which is why I haven't posted much on here.

One of my long time favorites, Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic, was just knocked out by Frank Mir. Not that Mir is anybody's fool, but I remember Mirko, the terror of PRIDE FC - his fight with Fedor was incredible. I predicted great things for him when he initially came to the UFC ... Boy was I wrong. I get the impression that Mirko's head just isn't all the way in the game, these days.

Looking forward to Brock Lesnar's upcoming match-up with Cain Velazquez. Brock has become "the fighter I love to hate." I'm looking for someone to knock him off his throne (not that I think that'll be an easy task with his unparalleled athleticism, ungodly strength, strong wrestling, and he seems to be a very quick learner.) Cain is a likely candidate to do it, but I'd really like to see a rematch with Shane Carwin.

I'm starting to hear rumblings about a possible title shot for Fedor against Alistair Overeem. I'd like to see this ... I think it's time for Fedor to wear a title belt again, despite his idiotic loss to Fabricio Werdum.

Lastly, I'm hearing that one of my "Home-town boys," Dan Henderson, is about to return to action. I've always loved to watch Dan fight - his knockout of Michael Bisping is among the most brutal in MMA history!

Brock vs. Cain in a couple of days...getting excited - we may just see an upset if Brock can't end it early, with Cain being the cardio machine that he is. The under-card is a little lackluster. The Shields vs. Kampmann fight could be an interesting one.  It'll be interesting to see what Tito Ortiz has left in him.

I'm making my prediction , Lesnar by knockout in 1st round. I don't think Cain can beat him, just not big or fast enough.Think also Lesnar is becoming more likeable at least in M.O.

There are aspects of this match-up that make it intriguing. Cain was arguably the better wrestler, and has proven to have a pretty decent chin. His conditioning and stamina is said to be second to none. He is the better striker of the 2 - he brings an interesting set of threats into the fight.

Brock looks to be coming into this fight a bit lighter than he's been in recent fights - this could be a good news/bad news thing - it takes away a bit from the weight advantage he enjoys over Cain, but could also mean he's been working harder on his cardio in an expectation of having to fight all 5 rounds, and I've yet to see Brock get gassed in a fight. It may also make him even quicker (and he's already scary fast for a man his size.)

Bottom line? I *WANT* Cain to win this fight (anyone but Brock!) But, Brock has shown me in his short MMA career that betting against him is never a good idea.

Magoo, your prediction coming true wouldn't shock me at all.

I am invited to some fight on Saturday night and don't know what to be excited for since I don't follow it...

Anyone have a summary regarding Saturday's PPV?  Any tidbits and facts I should know?

Main card
Heavyweight bout:  Brendan Schaub vs.  Gabriel Gonzaga
Light Heavyweight bout:  Tito Ortiz vs.  Matt Hamill
Welterweight bout:  Diego Sanchez vs.  Paulo Thiago
Welterweight bout:  Jake Shields vs.  Martin Kampmann
Heavyweight Championship bout:  Brock Lesnar (c) vs  Cain Velasquez

The Tito Ortiz vs Matt Hamill fight is interesting because Tito was Matt's coach on the Ultimate Fighter reality show. Tito is a good wrestler but is nearing the end of his career while Hamill is also a good wrestler with ever improving standup. He really seemed to look up to Tito while on the show, so will mental games play a factor?? (side note: Matt Hamill is legally deaf...but hasn't slowed him down one bit)

Jake Shields vs martin Kampmann...both really well rounded fighters, slight edge going to Sheilds, but this is his first UFC fight (former champ in Strikeforce, another promotion) so the "1st time UFC jitters" could play a role.

Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez,  2 talented heavyweights, Cain being the better striker and also a great wrestler. Brock comes from the WWE so his smack talk is great, but he has proven to back it up. Could be anyones game but I give a slight edge to Brock because of his size.
