Being bald while in college

For those of you that were or are bald while in college, please let us know of your experiences.  Did you shave?  What was the overall reaction? 

We get a lot of guys coming here that are in college and I think this thread will help them out tremendously.

I know some of you just shave because you like the style and most others shave because they are sick of their thinning hair. Well I started losing my hair sophomore year of college.  Before that I had no problem with confidence or friends or the ladies.  During the period when you could tell my hair was going I was so self-conscious that I would wear a hat everywhere or sometimes even miss class on bad days.  It was a dark time for me and I'm very glad I found this site.  I was extremely nervous about shaving it because I was always known for having nice hair.  I usually used gel or pomade to style my hair.  My confidence at that point was so low that I was willing to try anything.  I'm glad I made it here before those places like bosley or the drugs got a hold of me.  Right when I shaved it I was really nervous about what people would think, mainly the ladies.  It just takes some time to get used to like most new things but once I did it I knew it was the right decision.  After regaining my confidence back I was back to the same old me and didn't care about the receding or thinning.  You may here the occasional comment like "Mr. Clean" or the one I get the most "Agassi" as in Andre.  Doesn't bother me at all.  I like to work out too and not to sound cocky but I can tell most guys are a little more hesitant/intimidated before they say something to me when me and my friends are out at a bar or house party.  It definitely makes you look tougher.  As far as the ladies, I have had absolutely no problem dating and have done very well in the lady department.  As long as you have your confidence your situation shouldn't be much different from when you had hair.  Of course you still have to have some decent game.  But any questions or anything you guys have just shoot me a message and I'd be happy to help

Those of you who are about to start college need to bear in mind that it's a very different world from high school.  In high school, there's tremendous pressure to conform, whereas the college years are a time when most people begin to express their individuality -- and for a lot of people that means experimenting with your appearance.  Trust me, you'll have more leeway and far fewer people judging you than will be the case later in life.

It's much harder to make big changes to your appearance when you're older.  Not that it can't be done, it's just not as easy.  And once you get past a certain age, people will think you're going through a midlife crisis.  So take advantage of the grace period you've been given and have some fun with it.

Buzzed college Junior here. I started losing my hair freshman year. I was eating breakfast, and a female friend of mine simply said "you're balding." I've had friends make fun of my receding hairline, and another girl ask me to lift up my hair so she could see the damage. One day swimming at the pool, a girl simply said "oh my god, you're bald." 

However, my roommate freshman year had a shaved head. He was bald by choice, and at the time I never thought twice about it. I never really heard anyone mention it to him either.  He was BBC, but still. As a balding guy, I got more comments than my roommate did as a bald guy. I am still working up the courage to shave my head. Maybe this year...

If you look around, you'll see a ton of guys in the beginning stages of MPB. As when you go out, you see tons of guys with smoking hot girls with MPB or a shaved head. Like everyone here attests too, it's all about self confidence. My girlfriend says she never even noticed guys hair until she heard me gripe all the time about balding at 20.

Personally, I'm more worried about potential employers than what my peers think. Hopefully that works out this year with regards to internships and whatnot.

Sly is not a concern for employment, the SBG's are in possibly every line of work and profession and few if any has had real job issues bc of sly.  Neat, clean, appropriately dressed--that counts and is very important, personal hygiene very important, sly--it is totally personal and it will give you confidence that will show--and confidence finishes the performance for job seekers.  Go for it, mpb, uncontrolled, is just a weight of angst you don't need to carry.
