Shower shaving with oil.

Hello. First post. Loving the site, fellas.

Up until now, I'll jump in the shower, do all the usual prep, then throw some oil on my head and shave at the sink, splashing my head occasionally. It does the job I need. But I've decided to give shower shaving a try.

Now, a stupid (probably) question:
In the shower, after doing all the usual prep, then throwing the oil on your head, do you actually stand under the running water for the duration of the shave? Or just dip your head under occasionally?

Welcome - I'm a shower shaver, and the only thing I rinse is my Headblade.  I use headslick, but if you're using oil, I imagine you could re-wet your head because oil is not going to wash off like shaving cream.

hey bro

new shower shaver here. what i do is the usual prep by soaking and washing my head. then i lather up, step into the back portion of the shower and shave. re-lather if needed and touch up. and then i stick my head under the shower to rinse and finish the rest of my shower.

Firstly, welcome to the forum, Spog! Here's a routine that works for me:

1. Jump in the shower
2. Exfoliate head and face
3. Apply olive oil to head
4. While oil is working its magic, shave face
5. Apply shave gel directly on top of oiled up dome, one section at a time
a. around right ear, then shave that section
b. around left ear, then shave that section
c. back of head, then shave that section
d. front of head, then shave that section

Note: To answer your question, you don't stand under running water for the duration. The shave gel would run right off. Once you have finished the above routine, then you dip and rinse your head.

Then, I finish my shower, pat dry. I do a final very cold rinse of my freshly shaved noggin under a tap. Then apply Witch Hazel to the dome, followed by Nivea Post Shave Balm.

I'm only using oil at the moment (K.O.S. Kinexium) and it works great, but I may start experimenting with gels/cream on top of that. Seems to work for a lot of people.
Only a few months into this shaving business and still experimenting, trying to find ways to shorten the time and brighten the shine...

Spog, I recently started using the oil shave (after my Fusion and shaving cream suddenly dissapeared when I forgot it in the shower one morning)      
I'm using a Panasonic Linear, but not in the shower, and it seems to work pretty good (although never quite like the Fusion. 
What seems to work for me is a brief wash off with a warm soapy cloth, rinse, dry and apply oil to the head.  I suppose I could apply the oil first thing; but I like the prep.  I've only done this a few times so far and the Panasonic seems to clean up OK with hot water.
I had previously shaved in the shower but found I was taking too much time and water.  I even turned the shower off while I shaved (except for a brief rinse or two for the razor).  For me, water is precious (spelled $$$$$!!!) and the rates are going up , so I'm looking at conserving all the water I can.

Ozzie, have you tried shaving your head with ONLY oil?  For me, the oil is sufficient (if I put enough on to begin to get a shine).  I'm not suggesting too much oil, or you could end up in a "slip and slide" situation.  
  
Also, I imagine it depends on what your using to shave with; for me, using a wet/dry electric it can plow through any build up of oil (goop?! ), whereas your razor might need more frequent rinsing.

I have not tried an "oil only" shave, Nonick. I rub in just a very small amount of EVOO to soften things up a bit. I should try it though.
