The deed is done!!
« on: July 20, 2010, 11:59:15 AM »
The deed is complete...I am officially sly!  I want to thank everyone on this sight because of your support I went through with it.  Although it only took a short time to actually complete the deed, it has been a long and difficult road.  The support on this sight has been outstanding and it has offered a perspective from people understand.  I need a little sun to even out the skin but so far so good.  Tell me, is it natural to have buyers remorse when one makes the jump to go sly?  Although I feel good about the decision at the moment, I just want to know whether regret ever sets in.  Also, my sides were really clean and smooth but the back was not.  I didnt push the issue too much because I didnt want to get razor burn.  Is it better to allow my skin to get used to the shock of having a razor pressing up against it before trying to get it as closely shaven as I can.

Again, thanks for all of the support!

Congrats! O:O O:O O:O

"Buyers' Remorse" isn't quite the term I would use, although I didn't come from the rug experience.  There's a "who's the dude in the mirror" feeling, that lasts a couple of weeks.  But, as you get out and about--use sunscreen--you're going to find that people either don't say anything--almost a let down because you feel so different at first and they don't seem to appreciate it--or compliment it.  A few jerks, generally the ones who should be looking for the blade themselves, will mouth off, but in a couple of months when they think they're only talking to you they'll start asking about it--they're thinking about it too, you can bet on that.
Your technique will improve, and that smooth feeling is totally addictive.  So take your time, enjoy the freedom.

Congratulations, Mauricio! Well done.  O0

Saintc pretty well covered everything you asked about. Just ease off for a day or so if your skin does get really irritated, but it sounds like you are off to a great start!

Looks great - I wouldn't call it buyer's remorse - It's more like, 'wow I did it, can't change my mind now - it's done.'  I would go easy to let your head get used to it.  The roughness in back is probably only if you rub from bottom to top - that is fixed by shaving up (against the grain) after shaving from front to back (down).
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Glad SBG could offer some support.

As far as the back of your scalp goes....what type of shaving gel did you use? Maybe use some type of gel that offers more of a level of protection (Headblade Headslick is a good one). Also, make sure you use some type of post-shave lotion.

Any questions, the guys are here to help.

It looks great Mauricio!  Great job of taking that step.   As a former rug wearer I can tell you that there's definitely moments of looking in the mirror and being in absolute shock.   From my own personal experience the first week was the worse.  The second week was better -- but still getting used to the look (well for rug wearers we already know what we'll look like as when you clean your system you shave the top of your head before you glue it back on).   For me the third week was the transition point and at the end of 30 days I was in the "I am never going back to hair" mode.    I'm at the end of my 8th month and sly is who I am -- actually because it is who I am!  No more hiding under dead squirrels glued to my head.

Sun definitely helps even things out.   I have a dark tan now and it looks great.

Hold fast -- its gets better.   The shock of "who's that person in the mirror" quickly fades.   You did the right thing.  Hair is out - sly is in!

Well, it's "training wheels" time for you

I am nearly eligible for full Social Security (should I choose to stop working), and that means about a quarter of a century (on and off) Sly.  Once upon a time I stood out in a crowd; now I'd probably have to drop trou to get a reaction.

A little time, a little sun, a little nonchalance--you'll fit right in.
