Hello all. I've been doing quite a bit of reading on here today and decided to join in. People have been telling me since high school that my hair was getting thinner. I realize that it is thin, but don't think it looks terrible, but have been recently wondering what I would look like if I were bald. I put it past my wife and she told me that she didn't think my hair loss was bad enough yet to take the plunge. Also, I just can't see myself bald and can't get it out of my head that it's going to look terrible. Not sure what I'm going to do, but this forum seems like it's going to be a great place for information.

Welcome. Not enough information on the current state of your mpb, but the fact you're looking for information would indicate to me at least that you've evaluated the alternatives and are at least looking in the right direction. Remember, wives, like mothers and other family, will try to hold on to the old you--even when it's only a memory. That is a fact demonstrated over and over on this site.
Another well established fact--it is part of my story as well--is that many of us put off the "deed" far too long and wound up carrying around a dying mop for years longer than necessary, causing a lot of angst and misery we shouldn't have had to deal with. Time and hairline wait for no man. I know that all those guys, like me, regret that and I can speak, I believe for them, in encouraging you most strongly not to make the same mistake we did.
Post Script--saw your avatar. IMO, and this is just me, you're more than ready--and that's only the front view--if there's a hole in back, aka vertex really gone Hamilton III and into a IV. I wouldn't wait any longer, ditch the dying mop, you'll look younger, more alert, ready to move on with life. And if after 30 days, you don't like it most of it, except what is programed to bail out during that time, will come back, for a while anyway, but it will go, hair by hair by hair. It's not a disease, just a genetic trait and you don't have to put up with it.

Its only hair. It will grow back to the way it is today if you find that you dont like being completely bald.

Welcome Mike!
If you're happy with your hair then just leave it as it is.
But if you wonder how you'll look bald you can find out only by buzzing it very short or shaving it off.
The look is so different that imagination doesn't help.
Just try buzzing/shaving, it is easy, it does no harm, and then you make your decision based on facts rather than assumptions.

Welcome Mike. Looking at your avatar my hairline is pretty similar to yours I shaved it about two months ago did it once to the skin but prefer a no guard and stubble but to each their own
. The plus is once you do it you don't look for signs of more hair loss everyday. After about two weeks felt normal with it. I imagine if you found this site your probaly ready and either way your hair is pretty short and would grow back quickly. No time like the present

Seeing you in the picture shows that your overdue for a good head shave... plus you look like you'd pull off the look quite good to.

As has been said--a head shave is not like a tattoo, in that it's not a nearly irreversible commitment. Buzz it short, shave it clean; if you don't care for the effect, or can't put with the grief from friends and family--well a month or two of razor neglect and you will be back to where you were
ante.
and you can move on to other concerns--the economy, global climate change, charcoal vs. propane...you know, the biggies.

Welcome Mike. Read thru some of the posts, then make your decision.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I don't know if I'll have anything to add around here, but I'll be around reading what others have to say. Reading all of the information that is already here really helps a lot. I especially like to see before and after pics just to get an idea of what others have come from before making this decision for the first time.
Well, Thanks again, and I'll be sure to post pics if/when I do it.

Welcome Mike, You're like me, I just couldn't make up my mind, then, after reading through these posts, I decided that the time had come. I, like others here went through the same concerns, like what will I look like, or what will others think of me, in the end, it's really up to you. You will just have to do it with no hesitation, and if you don't like it, at least you still have some hair to grow back for awhile. Good luck in your decision.

Welcome to the Forum Mike!
From looking at your avatar photo my opinion is that yoou are past ready to do somethig with your hair..... but that is MY opinion. If you like your hair the way it is, then that's great. But as Saintc has said in his post.... if you're looking here, you may not be as happy with your hair as you are saying.
Making the decision to shave is a difficult one for most.... even I was nervous about doing it the first time.... and I was VERY ready mentally to do it.
Do it when YOU'RE ready.... not when anyone else is or isn't ready. By the way.... i think you will look just fine with your head shaved.
