I made the jump
« on: July 04, 2010, 10:59:08 AM »
so i made the jump and shaved it all off about two weeks ago. my first time i used a sensor 3 disposable and had a little help from my bro, that time i only went with the grain which was fine but it felt a little rough.

by the next time i had my headblade which made it a bunch easier, this time i went both ways with then against i liked the feel alot. i think i got one nick.

sense then ive been getting alot more reddness and razor burn.  mainly around my ears and some at the base of my skull. it doesnt seem to matter if i go with the grain first or not.
i thought i would try shaving every day so it was easier to cut through but i think its a bit to soon and my head needs to recover (the first week i was shaving every other day).

any recommendations. will this get better after a while?

What type of shaving cream are you using?

Do you use anything after the shave?  I use Gillette 'after the shave cooling menthol gel' - stops the itching and spots, for me anyway. 8)

Yeah I've been using this aftershave stuff it helps with the redness for sure and the burn.

I know that for me the first week or two were like what you're experiencing.  That all went away by the end of week 2 for me.   I think I was putting too much pressure on my headblade and was going over the same area too many times.   Once I corrected those mistakes its been clear sailing.

One thing that's helped me get a much closer shave without the pressure is Saintc's recommendation of using St. Ives Apricot scrub.     I shaved this morning at 6am and at 4:10pm I'm still smooth as a baby's behind - and I don't have to apply any pressure to my headblade.

i second what the other have said. i also want to add that you should rinse your dome with COLD water after shaving, and then rub a couple ice cubes over your razor burn areas. then apply aftershaves and moisturizer. this has helped kill any razor burn for me. good luck

It all goes away after time  - - -it took about a month for me and  then just a nice smooth slick melon happens every day  - - - -and I still get redness sometimes  - not very ofter though - - -but I enjoy being BALD so much that I do not care about irritation once in while

Welcome to the site, I shave in the shower, I use Shick HYDRO shave gel, it has a moisturizing hydratant and the Personna M5 Magnum it has 5 blades and I don't have any nicks plus, I don't have to shave over the same spot which I used to find would cause my razor burn. Also, after my shower/shave I rinse my noggin with a good cold water rinse, it closes the pores and feels real good. I don't use aftershave on my head, I splash Witch Hazel, which doesn't have alot of alcohol, and if you let it dry on it's own, it will develope a good shine. You will soon develope your own routine by testing different gels and blades, I got all of my advice from these guys, they have been here longer than me, they know all the tricks and I received real good information from them.

how many of you are using the standard shaver vs the headblade.  i shave again tonight and i almost feel like im having to put to much pressure on the headblade to keep it from jumping around on my head when it grabs the hair especially on the back where i transition from my neck to my skull

Go with another shaver for awhile. HeadBlade doesn't work for me, and many others. You may be in the same boat.

Roger what Omegapd said.  Get a decent razor, like a Mach 3 or Fusion.  There are others, those are just what I prefer.  The Headblade is a great tool once you get use to it, and if you really like it.  O:O

so i made a few changes, i got the m5 blade yesterday along with shave secret oil and some apricot scrub.  i dont know what made the difference but todays shave went very well, no nicks and very little irritation.
