what keeps you young?
« on: July 03, 2010, 11:25:05 PM »
the getting older thread got me thinking. (i know! thinking? me? yeah, i do it from time to time.)so here is the question. what keeps you young? for me i think it is my kids. i love hanging with them. i can pretend i am young. although sometimes the old back reminds me that i am getting older. only 37 so i have plenty time left. but i think it is the kids that help me. guess that and the fact that i have too many things left on the bucket list. so tell me guys, what keeps you feeling young?

Certainly kids keep people young, but they are a "symptom" of what keeps a person young I think.  When you think about it a little the reason kids keep a person "young" is that being w/ a child is vicariously discovering again why life is so exciting, interesting, challenging, etc.  So that great feeling of discovery rubs off.  Another reason I feel that this "sharing" things new feeling is so much a part of being "young" is my memories of my grandfather.  He lived to be 99, and was fortunate enough to have good health pretty much until the end.  My mother told me that he once said that as his friends his age died he found that he could just sit there and get lonely or get out and meet new people--generally younger who shared some of his interests.  He then learned to enjoy some of theirs.  When he was at the end, many of his friends were thirty even forty years younger than he was.  He kept a lively interest in everything, never stopped learning.  He always had something going on--he taught a lot of people one of his passions, making wine.
My father was much the same, dying at 95, his friends were in their 70's down to people younger than me.  Again, he always shared his interests with them--hunting, fishing and food--and they shared their interests with him.  Kids do keep you young as do new friends.  But essentially its actively keeping an interest in life and learning, discovering and appreciating new things--maybe a play on the political statement says it, Ready of Change--it keeps you young, IMO.

For me,it's my kids...... but even more importantly.... it's how I think. Don't think like a stereotypical old man, be open minded and realize that people younger than you may do things differently than you. Stay up on curent events and happenings. Take care of yourself a bit.
Thank the good Lord everyday that you get to be here for another day. BE HAPPY!! Happy people are healthy people!

Having an open mind to new experiences and not getting bogged down in the same ole, same ole!

Of course having a 8 and a 7 year old to chase around doesn't hurt either! lol

Yeah, being with kids can be a huge influence to keeping young.  Also, don't lose your inner kid, be true to  yourself, and don't get overly hung up on stuff (issues of the day).  Let go of it; especially at the end of the day.  You can deal with it tomorrow if you want. It will be there if you want it tomorrow.  O0

I agree: kids keep you young, or mixing with younger people.  (of course, it can sometimes make you feel older too, lol!!)

I find it difficult to believe that I'm now 39 and supposed to be an adult!! :D

Also of course, being on SBG keeps you young! 8)
