Most memorable bithday!
« on: July 01, 2010, 07:30:09 PM »
Mine was my 19th birthday. Was on a weeklong camping trip for school. Woke up that morning about 500' up on a cliff. It was pretty amazing. Tell me about your favorite birthday!

Probably the most memorable was when I was quite young. My dad said he wouldn't be able to make it to my birthday party, but showed up unexpectedly with one of the first Indiglo (sp?) Timex watches. I loved that thing, the battery lasted almost 7 years!

Mine was my 50th birthday, which was a few months back on 4/11.

We were going to have a party, but it got very complicated very quickly.  Instead, we went to NYC and stayed at my favorite hotel right in Times Square.  We had such a great time and this ended being my favorite birthday ever.  You only turn 50 once ...

Spending my 50th in Ireland at it's oldest pub was certainly a highlight for me, but my most truly memorable would be when I turned 32.  I was living in South Africa at the time, which was already an awesome thing.   But the really cool part was spending part of the day in a shark tank.    Friend of mine had a girlfriend who was a marine biologist and offered me the oppourtunity for my birthday.

From when I was younger...... For my 16th my Mom surprised me by taking me to see Ella Fitzgerald and the Count Basie Orchestra. Let's just say that a 16 year old teen boy who loved Kiss, The Stones, etc. was not thrilled by this idea.

But it was in a small venue and just Mom and I went. She was just smiling the whole time while "dragging" me there. I was hating life..... and then Ella Fitzgerald came out and started singing. I can still see the look on my Mom's face as my neck spun my head to face her.... she had a smile from ear to ear. The angelic voice of Ella Fitzgerald filled that small theater and I never took my eyes off of her and sat on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I heard great classic songs for the first time... sung by one of the truly greatest singers ever. Mrs. Fitzgerald was already up in years at that time but oh that voice.

And the there is now...... I'm typing this from a campground in Virginia from the side of a beautiful mountain with my 50th Birthday two days away on Monday. My son and daughter are playing right next to me and my beautiful wife is just outside. Amazing weather in a beautiful setting........
For an old Baltimore boy who, in my twenties, thought I would never see fifty, this is an amazing weekend. I have all the love a man could want within mere feet of me. God has given us a beautiful place to be for the weekend. And yes... I will see fifty..... blessed in so many ways that a young Koz could never have dreamed of.

Nice Post, Koz.  O0

My favorite birthday was my 40th. I spent a week with The Lovely Mrs. Schro and our two kids in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.
Kids got to snorkel for the first time. We ate well, partied, spent time in the ocean, and have memories that will last a lifetime.

Man I like hangin  out with all you 40's and 50's guys!  Makes me feel young.  One that sticks out was probably 1982.  I turned 8 and my favorite team won the World Series.  I can still remember watching Joaquín Andújar pitch.  Best part is that his son played for our local minor league team last year and I got to take my boys to see him play.  Not a mountain top, but it will do  O:O

I think my most memorable one was my 27th, when I was at Fort Benning and jumped out of a "perfectly good" airplane at night!  It was our 3rd time jumping (stepping?!) out of a plane, and I still remember the Jumpmaster telling us that it would be our first night jump, although for some it would be their third!!  :*)) :*)) (their eyes were closed on the first two jumps).   :/O  It wasn't that funny at the time, either.   :o

My most memorable one so far was my 18th. I was so excited to finally be 18 and all. I was working at a dairy that summer and had to milk 3 times a day, AM was 3-8, noon was 12-4, PM was 8-1. I had to work the day before, my actual birthday, and the day after. I went to work on the 17th at 3 and slept in the office since I had a few hours between milkings. I went home on the 20th at 1 am. No one cared, my parents didnt even realize it was my birthday, no "Happy Birthday" or anything, no gifts, it was literally just another day it seemed. When I woke on on the 21st I realized it sucked because I missed voting, I dont really use tobacco products or anything, it was lame. But it was certainly my most memorable. My 21st birthday is on the 18th and I get it as a paid day off from work so Im hoping its gonna be a blast!
