The Great American Dream Vote
« on: March 28, 2007, 02:03:53 AM »
Tonight I saw a commercial about this show called The Great American Dream Vote and I'm not sure what I think.  The show has two "contestants" that each have a dream and America gets to choose who gets to win their dream.  So, why do I even mention this show?  Well, one of the contestants has the following dream as described on ABC.com

Russ Jowell
Russ Jowell (1-877-I-VOTE-02)
Student, Forth Worth, TX
Dream: Wants a full head of hair again
At the age of 16, Russ started to lose his hair. Now at the age of 22, and a senior in college, he has had far from the average college experience. When he goes to college bars he is looked at like the old man trying to hit on girls 20 years younger than him. Russ wants nothing more than to have a full head of hair so he will be able to live the normal life of a 22-year-old.

Here's a pic of ol' Russ:

I can understand his dream, but I really don't think it's his hair that he really wants.  I think it's the confidence that he seeks to have a "normal" life of a 22 year old and he thinks it's the hair that will provide this confidence.  I'm genuinely worried that if his dream comes true that he's going to find that it's not going to give him the confidence he's looking for.  Instead, every chick at his school is going to know he has plugs.  Then, he's just going to be self conscious about his plugs and the cycle starts over again.  I kinda wish for his sake that he doesn't win and instead tries shaving his head before trying plugs.

People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

That is why he is not bald or sly.  I guess not everybody can be as great and beautiful as us. ;)

Too bad that Russ doens't go to www.baldlygo.com and get his picture balderized then he would get an idea of how he would look if he bacame sly.  If he did that and maybe grew some facial hair, he probably would look more his age.  And since I am a chubby guy trying to lose weight, I am sure that he would even look younger if he shed some pounds!

Marsh, Your right on with that insightful reply. He will regret getting the plugs. All he really needs is some shave cream and a blade. Losing some weight and adding some facial hair would build his self esteem and definitely give him some more confidince to embrace his natural bald self.

You're right Tyler.  He needs to just take a good look at himself and find the confidence that's hiding in there.  He should definitely go for the sly look for sure.  He would gain all the confidence in the world.

Ditto, his problem in not on the outside, but on the inside.
