Balding is wierd

I just really think that the whole process of going bald is wierd. First I relize that many on here that balding isn't a defect, but really think about it. Our ancestors needed hair on top of our head to keep us warm especially for us that came from Europe. Also I constantly forgot I'm going bald this last month I forgot all about it versus where before I was freeking out. I don't think balding has anything to do with not being attractive because I know bald people who don't even shave with hot wives. Also I think what makes it wierd for me is that I started going bald at 17. I should have figured my dad went bald at 22, my grandpa at 18, however theres no traces of balding on my mom's side of the family. When I was younger I always saw bald people and I just thought it was something that happened when you get older not when your only 18. I realize from here on out more and more of my peers will start losing my hair, but I serisouly only know 1 person the rest have full heads of hair. I believe in God so I just ask him sometimes why did this have to happen to me I been good most my life. You do notice peoples hair alot more when your going bald you can see where its like "that guys got a receding hairline" or "that guy is bald in the back." But its when I see someone with the shaggy skater hair that I used to have and girls liked I feel cheated out of my youth a little bit. An supposedly a company Histogen's spose to be coming out with a cure in 2013,but many have said that the 3 year away mark ends up being another 3 years when it comes time to it. How is it in 2010 we still don't know anything about curing hairloss. I live with it day by day and on the days I don't think about it I'm happy and its not really a big deal, but somedays I really wish I could grow my hair back out. I'm sure most of you love the sly look, but you can't tell me there hasn't been aday where you wish you could have it back. I guess I'll just keep shaving till a reliable technology comes out... i dont know baldings just wierd.

I know it seems like a curse now, but you can make it a blessing.  God doesn't lay more on you than you can handle.  He let you be the one that started losing his hair at 17 because he knew you could handle it and didn't need it.  My opinion is that he knew you could handle it, because you aren't vain or jealous.  Maybe a bit envious, but not jealous    I remember when I was your age there was a brand of clothing that slips my mind now, but their slogan was Dare to Be Different.  I took that to heart.  This experience will show the rest of your peers how mature you are, and will let you be an example to others your age.  Plus it will be a great subject for oral reports when you get into college    We need guys like you around here so we can calm down the next young cracker that thinks that all is doomed and whoa--is-me    Keep it up Kenny you're ahead of your game.

Why not you?  Baldness isn't a punishment handed down from the Almighty, so don't think of it that way.  Why did you start growing facial hair when you reached puberty?  Why did your voice get deeper?  These are just things that happen to guys at certain stages in our lives.

You shouldn't feel cheated, because frankly, shaggy skater hair doesn't look good on anybody.

I'm sure most of you love the sly look, but you can't tell me there hasn't been aday where you wish you could have it back.

Most of us have felt that way at one time or another, but it's a feeling that fades as time goes by.  By the time the great "cure" comes around (something I personally don't believe will ever happen), you probably won't even want to take adavantage of it. 

You're not a kid anymore.  Your appearance has changed.  Instead of resisting it, just go with it.  You don't have to be a "pretty boy" to be attractive to women.  As has been said here countless times before, confidence is the key.  And as I've said here many times, being in the best physical condition you possibly can helps as well.  Somebody said it here the other day -- I forget who it was -- that if you have a muscular build, that's what women will be looking at, not the hair that you do or don't have on your scalp.   Work on the aspects of your appearance that you can control, and stop obsessing over the things you can't control.  You may end up looking very different from what you ever thought you would, but you'd be surprised at how pleased you may be with the end result anyway -- even if it wasn't exactly what you had in mind.

You shouldn't feel cheated, because frankly, shaggy skater hair doesn't look good on anybody.

If you're so worried about losing your youth, and I get that..  I spent 5 years "losing my youth", turn your inevitability into your style.  I think I've used the word "edge" like 5 times on this forum today alone, but seriously.  Look at Chris Daughtry.  He's a great inspiration for young guys, imo.  The dude looks fierce.  

You're at the age where you need to start defining yourself and no better place to start than adapting a look that fits the sly dome that makes you feel confident.  And I can defy your statement that none of us haven't wished for a day to "get it all back", because I truthfully haven't.  I looked good in high school with my full head of hair.  I think I look BETTER now.  

Part of getting noticed by girls is putting yourself out there and standing out.  The sly dome is definitely a big way of accomplishing that.  It's an advantage--not a disadvantage, but only if you treat it as such.  Put some confidence behind it and own it and you've won half the battle.

first up you suit the bald look - i think you with hair just wouldnt be right..

secondly, I wish i could've taken the plunge like you when I was 18. Now at 22, I tried all the meds and am now just reading about all the long term side effects of propecia, and VERY relieved I was lucky enough to not have any of them (touch wood)

If i had my time again I would've shaved it and got on with it like I have finally done now. I am making up for lost time - but the fact you have done it already means you can move on.

Balding isn't a disease and shouldn't be labelled as such. When the cure does come out and you want to think about it just be sure to look at the side effects first and weigh up if the trade off is worth it!

this will stir some controversy BUT i read somewhere that when men hunted in packs they always needed a bald man. This was so that the head could reflect the sun and blind the prey......

Haha that made me laugh quite a bit.    Ya I've thought about doing all the pills and cremes, and people on other forums actually told me it'd be the best idea. One guy even said that he'd rather have hair than have money when I told him about it being expensive. I think I'm glad that I shaved it instead of going through all the hiding. Acutally I didn't notice it till I started shaving my head so I just kept it shaved so as to hide it better. I think I've accepted it finally, but its wierd becuz still somedays I forget its happening and I go "Oh crap im going bald" lol

Lordy me!  I would surely think that God (if there IS one) has a lot to look after in His running of the Universe.  I somehow do not think that the state of one's hair, full and thick and lustrous and a chick-magnet, or thinning and faded and STILL a chick-magnet (where do babies come from anyway?) is high on His "to do" list.  Just keeping the sun running probably is nearly a 24/7 affair for Him.  So, get a good razor, make the best of your (God-given?) opportunity to be one of the slyest in nature...and invest in sunscreen for the dome.
