At the main page of the forum there's a link to "How to shave your head."  That's a good place to start.  On the equipment, well--IMO, I would use the razor you currently use on your face at first, you may move on to something else later but your technique is probably easier to develop at first with familiar equipment.  The second picture is of a clipper, that's not going to give you a blade smooth dome, there are some electrics that come close but for this bald guys money, the blade is the business.
Don't forget to start with a fresh blade, a scalp trimmed of as much remaining hair as possible and then take a nice leisurely shower as hot as you can comfortably tolerate.  Shampoo liberally and leave your head wet when you get out and dry off.  Apply some shave gel or cream and slowly take the blade down the center to the back, then down one side and the other etc.  Take your time, speed will come later.  Then when you've finished rinse with warm then cold water, dry and apply a quality after shave balm.  You're Sly, enjoy. 8)

Depends on what you have and how you shave now.  If your an electric guy trim it close and use your electric razor.  If you use a blade use that to do the deed.  Saint is right on the money.  Take a hot shower.  Wash it really well.  If you have Conditioner, I would recommend that you use some of that to soften the hair.  Don't dry your head when you get out.  Lather up with your cream/gel of choice.  Make the first pass with the grain (Top to bottom in the back and sides/Back to front on the top)  Then rinse and relather.  Go against the grain (Opposite of first pass)  Rinse with cold water.  Apply non-alcohol after shave balm/lotion.  Admire your work  8)  Don't concern your self with a super close baby butt smooth (BBS) shave at first.  That is where a lot of newbies give their self bad razor burn.  Hope this helps.  Post pictures when your finished.  O0

It's probably not the razor, but failure to use an astringent after shave to clean any bacteria or other irritants from the skin.

Be ready for a eye opening experience.  Your barber more than likely will use a Shavette straight razor.  And you can probably do a better job.  I'm not saying that there aren't good ones.  But there are more incompetent ones.  If you haven't noticed.....a lot of us(read-almost all) use a cartridge razor more than any barber.  Check out the threads as Ryan has pointed out.  We have many guys on here with sensitive skin.  I know they can give you pointers on how to get a quality wet shave by yourself.  If your getting pimples you probably need to start using a cold water rinse after shaving and/or an astringent to close your pores after you shave.  If you don't feel comfortable using a blade on your head,  I would have to recommend that you use an electric.  You can buy a good electric for the price of going and letting a barber scalp your head a couple of times.
