New 19 year old from scotland
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:36:23 AM »
Hey guys! New to the forum.. found it today whilst i was browsing! Im a 19 year old male from Scotland! Currently i have a full head of hair which is slightly beginning to receed at the crown and my front hairline! For a long time now ive been thinking about going for a shaved head.. but i just don't seem to have the guts to do it, i don't even have the guts to get a buzzcut! Strange as it seems! I think im quite a self concious person, but i really wish i could just take the plunge and go for the shave! I remember when i was 13 i got a #1 buzzcut and ended up wearing my hood up for the good part of a month! Any advice would be appreciated guys, thanks

Welcome to the forum. Just browse through some of the threads that attract your attention. You should get a ton of inspiration here that will give you the confidence to "take the plunge." Start with a #2 and work your way down from there. You'll probably like what you see. If you don't ... no worries ... it will grow back in a week or so. Good luck!

I understand the worry about shaving before and not liking the results. I shaved my head when I was 16 and same as you walked round with hood up and a wolly hat and this was in the middle of summer. But as you get older your features change and face fills out. Trust me you will look completely different then when you were 13. Just give it ago if you dont like it you can always grow it back.

Welcome!

I was about your age the first time I shaved....a couple of decades later, I wonder what I was so self-conscious about, but I remember feeling very awkward about it although I loved the look. Now I'm so glad I did it!

I would suggest as above starting with a number 2 buzz, wear that for a bit, then go to a number 1. Do the same thing and then go for a 0 clip and wear that for a bit. If you're pale like me, this will give your head a chance to get some color, so when you go for the full shave you won't get "light bulb head" like I had.  ;D  Instead, you will look sly and good from the word go.....a great booster for the self-confidence.

Good luck!
Mike

My advice would be to focus on your personal and professional life and get it to a point where you are happy with it. Work on interpersonal relationships with friends and family. If your happy you can do anything and cope with anything. Do confidence building tasks and activities outside your comfort zone and give it your best. I think then if you really want to shave or just let your hair recede for a few years whatever comes you will be able to deal with looking different.
