I can't stand Jon Leibowitz.
Now that's funny, I'm not a big fan of Stewart as I was before he got all big....I do enjoy Stephen Colbert way more.
Colbert is good at bringing people back to reality too.
This all brought to mind what my boss told me many years ago when I worked for a company controlled by a group of Kuwaiti investors--they were all richer than God, and my boss was a Syrian, married to a Lebonese lady. He had traveled and worked all over the world, he had taught at universities in Europe, the Middle East and the US, including Harvard. Brilliant guy, great sense of humor and we were great friends.
But the point is this, we were talking one time and he was talking about his impression of America and Americans. This was in the mid-80's. He said that the one thing that distinguished Americans from every other nation was it's ability to make fun of its leaders when they thought they had made a gaff, when they thought they had gone "over the top" and acted like they forgot they were part of the whole nation. That distinction was that we laughed and made public fun of our leaders, no one, no party, no idea was sacrosanct. He said that people in many other areas could be killed, imprisoned or shunned by society for doing such things.
You know, I sometimes get a feeling my countrymen are losing part of that unique ability, and it not only isn't a good thing, it can scare me.
Just my thoughts.
