The Next Level
« on: April 27, 2010, 06:57:29 AM »
I'm new here, but I've been shaving my head for about three years.  Can't seem to get the look I want though, which I've seen only rarely: shiny like a mirror, or marble, no sign of hair stubble.  Is there some technique to this, like a particular kind of oil or wax?  Is there any way to effectively/safely remove the hair permanently or at least long term (electrolysis, laser, dipilatory)?  I tried waxing for a while, but progress was slow.  Thanks.

Welcome Edward.  I'm assuming that you have dark hair and light skin.  And if so,  all I can say is let me know when you find out  ;D

Welcome Edward.  Shiney, no problem, close shave, after shave balm then some sunscreen.  Let it absorb while you eat breakfast, read paper & have coffee.  Then when you're ready to go out the door, buff it off some with an old tee-shirt, feels good brings up the shine.
Now shadow, frankly it's something you learn to live with.  From what I've seen here on the threads about waxing---OUCH, and laser looks to be a long time, iffy situation that can be expensive and not necessarily deliver.  Also, dark hair more pronounced shadow, blond and gray, it seems to be a much better result, shadow wise.  You can live w/ shadow, you can live w/ less than mirror shine, but a bozo ring, combover or rug--don't work, nor do drugs.

Welcome!
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Alas, there is no way to avoid "shadow" if you have dark hair.  You have to accept it as part of the package of being sly.  Yes, it would be nice to have a dome that's uniform, front to back, side to side, but until your hair goes white, the contrast between the gone-hair area and the still-haired fringe will be noticeable.  Ming has no advice on waxing or lasering, except to say the thought gives him the creeps.  He rises above such concerns, as his hair has turned white and he can be dispassionate about shadow.

The advice from other members is, as usual, on the mark.  It's the commitment to shaving that's the essence of sly.  Fretting over peripherals is not the point.  While we may hope for perfection, we are wiser to accept what is possible.

Welcome to the group.

Welcome Edward. The best I have found for shine is HeadLube Glossy moisture lotion, by HeadBlade.
Great stuff, very soothing and gives a nice gleam to the dome.    8)

By the way, no need to wax, just shave everyday; easy.

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome Edward!

Let the shine be with you!
And as for lasering/tweezing, there are several threads about it in the forum.
Seems not to be an easy way to me, but read for yourself.
