First off let me start off by saying Hello to everyone

I havent posted on here in a while, so I guess I am somewhat a noob on this site lol.  I am 17, turn 18 in May, and I have a grown out #1 Buzzcut.  I have been thinking of going sly for a little over a year, I want to, I am just too scared.  Not so much of my parents and family reaction, but girls in school reactions.  Not many guys my age go sly, so it is rare to see.  I am also worried that my scalp might be too white, since I dont tan that well lol.  So I was just wondering if I should wait a few years to go sly, maybe while I am in college?  Or maybe try it before college?

I presume that turning 18 in May means that you are a junior going into your senior year.   This is the right time to be thinking about a harmless summer fling with slyness.  Your subject line says a lot.  Take my word for it, once the thought is in your head, it won't go away until you just do it.

I wish I had done so at that point in life, but in my day ('60's), hair was "the thing", and although some guys had "summer crewcuts", nobody shaved their heads.  

Shave it right after school gets out and make it a goal to keep it shaved all summer.  If you don't like it, you can always change your mind, and it will be back to a #1 in a few days.  

If you keep a #1 for a couple weeks before shaving, your scalp will get enough sun that it won't be too white when you shave, and it will even out in a few days.  

As for the girls, you know they go in all directions.  That is as true for 17 years old as it is for 47 years old.  Some will like the look, some will like the smoothness, some will like the "bad boy" image, and some will NOT like it at all.

I agree; summer is just around the corner and it's the perfect time to give it a try.  It will give you a chance to get used to it without having the worry of facing everyone at school.  Yes, your scalp will be a bit white at first, but the color will even up in no time.  Be sure to wear sunscreen to avoid burning your dome.

You obviously want to do it, so you owe it to yourself to give it a try.  Not everyone will like it, but you're doing it because you want to, not to please someone else.  For that matter, not everyone will like the haircut you currently have, so suit yourself.

You're obviously not afraid to go really short, so this is really a risk-free proposition.  It only takes a week to grow back to a #1 buzzcut length if you don't like it.  As Gambrinus said, I wish I'd done it when I was your age.

As for peoples reactions, i wouldnt let it bother you, like you said summer is near and you wont have to worry much during that period.

Also get some of the sunless tanning lotion, i have been using it for about 2 days and my whiteness is already disappearing .

I thought about doing it today because it got up to 90 out lol, but I didnt do it =/
